February is water does wonders month!

Pretty cool water bottles!

As part of the Healthy Kids Community Challenge, Merlin Area Public School was one of 10 schools that enrolled to participate in Water does Wonders Month! This month, students received a Water does Wonders Month launch presentation and will take part in classroom activities and a School Water Bottle Challenge that will teach them about the benefits of drinking water and the importance of limiting sugar-sweetened beverages. Each student has been given a reusable water bottle with a space for their name! Students will be allowed to keep these water bottles on their desks during the school day.

Researchers say that sugar-sweetened drinks are the single largest source of sugar in kids' diets. As a result, we want to encourage children to limit sugar-sweetened beverages and to drink more water. Drinking water is important for good health. Water does Wonders Month is a great time to make sure your child is drinking enough water. Water makes up more than half of a child’s body weight, and is important for almost all bodily functions. That means water is essential to keep children’s bodies working at their best. When your child starts to feel thirsty, they are actually in the first stages of dehydration! Encourage your child to sip water throughout the day before they feel thirsty. You should also try to do the same!

Help us make water the GO-to drink at school and at home. Water does Wonders! For more information, ask your child for the Water does Wonders fact sheet that was sent home with them.

inclusive education at lkdsb

The Lambton Kent District School Board believes a safe and caring learning environment is strengthened by embracing diversity, and respecting self, others and the world around us. As one of our belief statements, this is at the core of our values as an organization and informs the decisions and practices of our Trustees, administration and staff, as well as foundational to the learning environment in our schools, and directs our engagement with students, parents and the community.

Breakfast Program

If buses are cancelled, just a reminder that our Breakfast Program does not operate. We would like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers who help make this program available to our students so they can start their school day ready to learn.

contact information

Please ensure you share up to date contact information particularly phone numbers (home/cell/work) with Mrs. Oliphant. Some of the numbers we have on file from September are now not in service, or unable to take messages. In the event of an emergency, illness or injury, it is important that we have contact information for a parent or guardian. Thank-you for providing this information to the school at your earliest convenience.
