The Fly By: logan stokes

What dangers do you see as a person stranded on this deserted island. Be specific and explain; I see a bunch of dangers on this island here's why. One of the dangers would be food shortages because lets say one night your short on food and its not safe to go out and scavenge for food, turns out when you look for food there is non. So now you have to farm and plant your food which can be good and not.You have to take very much care for your food when you plant it because if you make one mistake it could all fail and that means no food for you.Another would be food safety. You cant just eat what you find you have to take good care for it because you don't know whats on that. There could be deadly bacteria on that slab of meat and kill you and your "Tribe mates" which is the end.The other is you shouldn't just do what you want to the animal life. Animals have brains and can get pretty dangerous around humans.Lets say you get bitten by a spider or a snake, your practically screwed its the end for you so... don't be a fool around animals because all it takes is one stupid mistake and its over. Just take extra percautions.

DO NOT KILL ANYONE:This is the most important rule out of all because you only have a certain amount of humans on the island and if you kill one, well first of all that's a human being you will need as much help on that island as much as possible to survive.Second you have no right to kill or harm another human because of the help that they can do. You will need to survive on that island as long as possible to get people to notice you and pick you off of the island.

Lets say you do kill one of the survivers that's one less and you only had one human, you cant survive on your own!. This is why its the most important rule off all.

Explain why the setting of this story adds to or contributes to the theme.

It creates a big role in the story because they are stranded on an island first of all ,and they are trying to survive. The setting is on an island they have no reach to any life outside the island making the setting related to survival because they have to survive on that island because they have no help so they are stuck.

They have no parents or adults to help them

Ralph has said, “This is a good island” (Golding 35). Ralph’s pronouncement will prove ironic; it is definitely NOT a good island. What problems do readers already know about? Explain why these problems prove this is NOT a good island after all.

Well, we know that they are stranded but there are lots of problems among them to be stumbled upon. All they have to eat is nuts, berries ,fish, and crab. They want real food , they caught and killed a pig which did feed their needs but caused the fire to empty handed and it died out. They found a boat on the horizon but the fire was out and the ship left out of there sight. The location of the island is bad for them, its an island of course but its very hot there. There are dangerous creatures their giving it an unsafe setting of the island.Everyone is fighting not listening not following the rules making this island corrupt. They thought it would be a great adventure, awesome island no problems there are definetly wrong making Ralph statement ironic.

Describe the Beast that seems to be stalking the island. Use the text as backup for your info.

The Beast seems to be giant, slithery, long , and sneaky. It seems to live or appear out of the ocean(88).The little kids get scared of this thing and tell story's of how scary it is, they have bad dreams about snake like creatures bot only see it at night. So the kids have a debate if its a beast or ghost. Most of them thought it was a ghost but it doesn't make sense to me that it appears to be a beast like snake. They say it hangs from trees or vines, which makes me conclude that it looks like a snake

Name at least two things the boys are doing or have given up that show how they are now operating on instinct and no longer trying to follow the rules of society

The boys are no longer listening to the chief or the rules because the boys no what to do they been through it for a while now and are tired of it. The platform is a good example for not following the rules, Jack says (" we don't need the conch anymore")101,102. He says this because they know who ought to say things.(It's time some people they've got to keep quiet and leave deciding to the rest of us)102.This clearly shows why they don't listen. They just gave up their speech "rights" .This is why I think they are falling apart because they have nothing to hold them anymore, they need those rules in lock. Their instinct are kicking in and its bad

This broken line shows the split between rules and instinct

Two rituals people are most familiar with are weddings and funerals. Pick an event (a wedding or a funeral). Make a list of at least 3 phrases people use at the event you picked. Using one of your phrases, explain why your phrase is helpful in the situation.

Wedding,

1:" I do ! "

2: "From this day forward until death do us part."

3: "May the years ahead be filled with lasting joy."

"From this day forward until death do us part.", Is very helpful to the audience and the couple. It tells you from now on we will be together till we die.Its helpful because every married couple should never split. They should be happy for ever and the phrase will remind to you how great full you should be that the fact that you are married.

This lock keeps love from this day till the day death do us part.

This is also telling what should happen.Because you should never get a divorce. Its just horrible to think about, and you just have to make the promise that you should never split.Always be together till the day you die.

Choose a character, either Ralph or Jack and explain the effect seeing the Beast has on the character you have chosen.Use textual information to support your answer.

I choose Jack for an effect because hes changed dramaticaly the most in the book.It seems to me that the beast has a huge effect on Jack because he is starting to get angry and dependent. He is chief now but of his own group. The beast changed Jack by being savage he is going out killing pigs and cutting there heads off for an offering to the beast, which I think is crazy. There is no beast its just a dead man on a mountain.Jack is starting to have rituals and sacrifice events"But we'll leave part of the kill for . . ." meaning he will have a sacrifice. Its changed him mentaly and spiritaly. Jack always wanted to be chief well he is of his own group, he thinks its having fun when killing the beast honestly I think he is crazy and is changing every ones life's in the island and his group espessally the littleuns, there getting agressive and blood thirsty.

In life people create groups. These groups might be at school, in sports, in extracurricular activities, and through religious organizations. Explain what needs groups fill for people. Explain both the positive and negative aspects of being part of a group. You may relate this to our novel, or you may make it a person reflection of your own experience.

Groups can be great for people or bad in some cases, here's why.Groups are held every where in the world it can be religion, sports, for help and fun activities. These are good activities to help and fit your needs but other groups can be horrible here's an example the KKK its a well feared group, I am not going to detail about this because you should know about this group already. Positive groups such as sports and religious groups are amazing experiences, you get to have fun with what you like and interact with amazing people, the negative is well... you may not be accepted in this group. Some groups can be a challenge or just flat out rude or hate you. Its very negative to have a group of hatred against a certain human or race, which can and will give your group a bad name to humans all over the world and wont be a part of it.

This is a group of seals.

Which is better - to have rules and agree, or to hunt and kill?”

Using this quote, take a stand. Pick a side and explain why your decision is best on this island here at the end of Chapter 11. Don’t forget to use textual evidence to support your answer.

In life you need something to control you, rules, standards if not...things will go down.I think its important to have rules and agree because without it you will end up like the kids in the lord of the flies, here's why. At the end of chapter 11 piggy get a blow to the head by the tribe, this wouldn't happen if rules were applied and agreed on. If the rule were to not kill and they all agree on it maybe the death of piggy never would happen. Actually a lot of things wouldn't of occured if rules were agreed and set.

Today’s assignment requires you to think about the book as a whole. Your directions are to choose a picture and a quote from the book and add it to your blog.

For the text (7-9 sentences), explain why you chose the picture and the caption to summarize your experience with the book.

There may be a beast, or is it just in their heads...

I chose this picture because this evolves around the beast, the whole book evolves around the beast actually because its a huge item in the book. All the kids talk about it they have rituals about it, they kill for it, they even sacrifice for it. But maybe, just maybe its not a thing, is it alive?, is it real. These are questions asked and thought by the kids and the readers. I use this caption to set a weird tone because its thought over so much, no one really knows about this beast.Which makes this book so interesting there is so much to talk about, I've had a wonderful experience with this book because its so awesome, everything about it is so appealing. The whole idea around the beast is so confusing which is why I chose this picture and caption because there is so much about this beast. The kids in this book are scared of this beast so they try to get good with the beast, but at the end they want to hunt and kill it. Turns out its not even real, it started around kids seeing it then having dreams about it so much that they make story's and rituals to be safe of the beast. The quote says maybe its just us and it is they made it up. Jack wants kids to believe in the beast so he can have a tribe, he wants to rule over them so he goes on with it so the little one stay with him to be "safe". This is why I chose this because this is what the book is.

This is questioning the beasts existence

Hello fellow 8th graders!, The Lord of the flies is a novel that you should be reading right now and honestly its a great book. What I think about this novel is that its very interesting and action packed there is always something going on that you just cant miss which makes this book one of the best I've ever read. The best way to have this book said to you is by Ms Lyda, she is very good at explaining the setting and just whats going on in the book to keep you up to date. Every character she reads of is makes you figure out their personality there tone, just to help you understand the circumstances in the book. The activities can be difficult but it helps you know the book and it helps you with test for that easy grade.Personally I think its easy once you do the activity's more than once.

The End...
