North Star News December 2018, Chapter 20, Region 3

FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK

Chapter 20 President: Mindy Leadholm, SR/WA

Greetings Chapter 20 Members -

A new year = new opportunities, challenges, projects, and resolutions. My new year’s resolution is to simply be a better person than I was in 2018. Whatever your goals are for 2019, I wish you happiness and success – and hope that Chapter 20 is able to support you in your upcoming education and professional goals throughout the year.

Chapter 20 already has three courses planned for 2019, and are working on getting a few more set up. We will hold Course 502: Non-Residential Relocation Assistance and Course 506: Advanced Business Relocation Assistance in January and Course 215: Right of Way Acquisition for Pipeline Projects in April. Look on the Education Page of our Chapter 20 Website for more information and to register for these courses.

Thank you to those who attended our November Board and Member Meeting. A special thank you to our November meeting sponsors: Ulteig and WSB & Associates. Also, thank you to Penny Rolf, SR/WA for sharing your acquisition experiences in the Trunk Highway 43 bridge project in Winona, Minnesota.

Our next Chapter Board and Member meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 23 at Great River Energy in Maple Grove. Jen Holmstadt will be presenting at the member meeting on how natural hazards impact public infrastructure; and how the analysis of these hazards will influence project scoping on future projects. Thank you to Fredrikson & Byron, ProSource Technologies, and SRF Consulting Group for sponsoring the January meeting. Registration is now open and available on our Chapter 20 website.

Chapter 20 is offering up to FIVE Scholarships – to help our members attend the 2019 International Education Conference in Portland, Oregon. Each one of these five scholarships is worth $750 toward your conference registration and travel expenses. For those who have never attended, the International Education Conference is full of both educational and networking opportunities. In addition, Chapter 20 will be hosting the 2020 Conference, so we’d love to have more of our members attend this 2019 Conference as a preview of what is to come. These Scholarship Applications are due by Friday, February 1 – let me know if you have any questions on this great opportunity!

As always, please feel free to contact me if you need anything or have any questions about Chapter 20 business. As your President, I am here to help you get the most out of your Chapter 20 membership. Cheers to 2019!

Membership Renewal Reminder

Your 2019 Membership Invoice has been sent. If you have not received your renewal invoice, please contact Ben Barker at 612-581-6572 or bbarker@wsbeng.com.

By renewing your membership you stay connected to your profession through, Right of Way Magazine, educational programs and the community of your peers. You also receive reduced member rates when you take a course, attend Association conferences and seminars and Chapter meetings and events.

If you are facing the difficult choice of paying for your dues out of your own pocket or letting your membership lapse altogether, we encourage you to call the IRWA Headquarters to discuss options on how you can maintain your membership for the upcoming year.

If Chapter 20 is able to retain 90% of our membership total, we will receive 1 free conference registration from Headquarters. We are hoping to meet that goal and can do that with your help.

There are other incentives as well based on our net growth that would also give us free memberships that we could pass on to our members. If you know anyone that is in our industry that would benefit from the IRWA, please let them know about us.
