A vitamin that can dissolve in water. Water-soluble vitamins are carried to the body's tissues but are not stored in the body. They are found in plant and animal foods or dietary supplements and must be taken in daily. Vitamin C and members of the vitamin B complex are water-soluble.
Vitamin B. Any of a group of substances (the vitamin B complex ) that are essential for the working of certain enzymes in the body and, although not chemically related, are generally found together in the same foods. A deficiency of vitamin B12 can lead to anemia. A mild deficiency may cause no symptoms. ex. Dark greens and red meat.
Vitamin C. Protects against infection. Can cause bleeding gums if you're lacking it. comes from citrus fruits like strawberries and tomatoes.
Fat-Soluble vitamins that dissolve in and are carried by fat
vitamin k. vitamin k help blood to clot. lacking this can cause bleeding and bruising. comes from dark greens like broccoli and lettuce.
Vitamin A. Helps with better vision and also hair and skin. lacking it can cause night blindness. comes from bananas and carrots.
Vitamin D. Builds and maintains bone and teeth. without it you can become bow legged. comes from the sun and dairy.
Vitamin E. Protects the membranes of white and red blood cells. Without it you may get poor nerve connection. comes from vegetable oils and fruits/vegetables.
Calcium. Strengthens bones and teeth. if you don't get enough it can cause osteoporosis. Comes from Milk and Cheese.
Iron. Helps muscles store and use oxygen. without it you could get anemia. comes from animal products and vegetables.
Sodium/Potassium. Maintains fluid balance. can cause muscle cramps and high blood pressure. comes from salt and fruits/vegetables.
