Headteacher Comment

I have truly been blown away by how brilliantly and respectfully our school has tackled learning about Black History. This can be such a tricky topic to address but we have not shied away from it and fully embraced it in order to gain a better understanding of ethnic diversity. This afternoon we ended our learning with a 'finishing off' assembly that saw every class sharing their learning with the rest of the school. We were treated to learning through songs, art work, drama, poetry and storytelling. We hope you enjoy this special Black History Month edition of our newsletter: inspirational!

As we close the term, I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support. I would also like to extend my thanks to the staff at Greenfields who have continued to do their absolute best to ensure our children continue to thrive in our care.

Have a wonderful half term break and see you all on Monday 2nd November.

Fairtrade - Happy Hyenas

In Happy Hyenas this week, the children created some artwork from their story which showed the journey that slaves took to get to freedom by following the stars.

Happy Hyenas

The children also learned all about Fairtrade and talked about how we can make sure everyone is treated fairly. They had a look at some different products and found the fairtrade logo on each one.

Smart Snakes Find Freedom

Year 2 have absolutely loved Black History Week! They begun the week learning the whole school text, 'Follow The Drinking Gourd'. They then used drama to get to know their character Isaiah through hot seating and a 'conscience alley', then wrote a diary entry in role. They created maps to chart the route the slaves took on their journey to freedom, They all really enjoyed ageing and staining the paper so the maps looked really authentic! They also learnt about the amazing Rosa Parks and how Fairtrade helps farmers around the developing world. The class ended the week by watching a really moving film about slavery and reflecting on their learning this week!

Truly Remarkable Rhinos

Like every class, Remarkable Rhinos and Miss Kenny have spent the week learning about and celebrating Black History.

The children have all researched black people that inspire them and explaining why. These inspirational figures have ranged from Louis Armstrong to Stormzy, Maya Angelou to Harriet Tubman and Usain Bolt to Jean- Michel Basquait. Have a look at some of the work they have produced…

This work happened in the classroom and at home, I have loved hearing about conversations children have had with their families about Black History, please keep these conversations going.

This week has been so important; more now than ever, the children have discussed issues that they may never have before and it was inspiring to see and hear their thoughts on not only Black History but the fact that still today, racial profiling is still very much an issue.

These conversations will continue to happen every day so that the children are equipped to challenge different perspectives and to think critically about the world around them.

September 2021 Reception Intake

If you have a child turning 4 years old between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2021, you need to apply for their place to start in Reception in September 2021.

Greenfields Primary School and Nursery is now rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, and as with all outstanding schools the popularity of the school increases. With this in mind, we are expecting to be oversubscribed in our admissions for a place in our Reception class in September 2021. This means that we will not have enough places for the number of children applying and some families will be disappointed and not be allocated Greenfields. More information on admissions can be found on our website

The application process is now available on the Northamptonshire County Council website: click on the button below to apply for place at Greenfields. The closing date is Thursday 21st January 2021.

If your child is currently attending our nursery and is due to start in our Reception next year, then we do not want you to be disappointed and miss out on a place. You must submit an application before the closing date as places are NOT automatically allocated.

Should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact our school office.

Google Classroom

Google Classroom is where you will find Greenfields' amazing virtual classrooms full of chat and lots of hard work! If you have not used Google Classroom before, or you are new to Greenfields, please follow this link that explains how to log on to a PC, Android or Apple device. Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos this Friday in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.

Children in Need 2020

Greenfields Primary School and Nursery are proud to support Children in Need again this year. Please send your child in mufti on Friday 13th November 2020 and make a donation directly to Children in Need via ParentPay.
