Richardson Park Celebrates A Day of Service

Richardson Park Elementary School students and staff celebrated local heroes with a Day of Service in September. The event marks the anniversary of a tragic fire that took the lives of three local firefighters. Every year, Five Points Fire Company collects supplies for students, and this year, the students decided to take the opportunity to say thank you for their service with a parade of personal thank you messages for the firefighters.

As part of the Delaware Goes Purple campaign to stand up against substance abuse, Red Clay schools hosted an inspiring talk featuring former NBA player Chris Herren. Herren shared his story of beating the disease of addiction as he spoke to a packed audience of students from Cab Calloway School of the Arts and The Charter School of Wilmington on October 10. Students had an opportunity to ask Herren questions at the end of the event, which was designed to raise awareness and remove the stigma around addictions.
