Dreams/hopes Juan Katin Osuna

Of Mice and men

" 'OK, someday-we're gonna get the jack together amd were gonna Have a little house and a couple of acres an' some cows and some pigs and-' 'an' live of the fatta the lan',' Lennie shouted. 'An' have rabbits..."
" 'No,' said GeoRge. 'No, Lennie. I ain't mad. I never been mad, an' I ain't now. That's a thing i want ya to know...and george raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it Close to the Back of lennie's head. The hand shook violently, but his face set and his hand steadied. He pulled the trigger."

These two quotes represent how George and Lennie had hopes & dreams that were eventually shot down due to the events following Curly's wife approaching Lennie.

Tularecito

"Thou hast said they are my people,' he exclaimed. 'I am not like the others at school or here. I know that. I have lonlieness for my people who live deep in the cool eArth. When i pass a Squirrel hole, I wish to crawl in it and hide myself. My own people are like me. I must go home to them, pancho."
After a short deliberation, he committed Tularecito to the asylum for the criminally insane at Napa.

These two quotes as well show how Tularecito had a dream to be with those who he believed he belonged with, which was also prevented from happening because of Tularecito's disability and the judgement of the court.

The Chrysanthemums

"Her lips moved silently, forming the words, 'good-bYe--good-bye.' Then she whispered, 'that's a bright direction, there's glowing there.' "
"Far ahead on the road Elisa saw a dark speck. She knew...she turned up her coat collar so he could not see that she was crying weakly--like an old woman."

Elisa had a wish, as shown in the quotes above, for her flowers to be put to good use. But just like George and Lennie or Tularecito, even her small wish was stopped because of the pot-fixer's selfishness.

In conclusion, all these stories connect to say that not all hopes and dreams can be achieved. We need to open up to that possibility and learn to move on, even for the smaller wishes in life, like asking someone out or preparing for a day with your friends. Like Theodore Roosevelt once said, "Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground." If we want to set a reasonable standard, we must always be ready for the outcome to be for better or for worse.
