VESD Assessment and Reporting Committee Newsletter april 2019

Grades levels K, 4th, 5th and 6th held our fourth meeting of the year in April. All grade levels have now begun to address their identified area of concern.

Below is a run-down of each grade level and what concern they are addressing:

TK- Dive into TK Frameworks and Resources; next steps, looking to create common Skills Assessments in Illuminate.

K- District Writing Rubric; next steps, Anchor paper calibration, revisit live posters from meeting #4

1st Grade- Common Sight Word Lists; next steps, continue analysis of current practices, potential development of assessment in Illuminate.

2nd Grade- Common Benchmarks; next steps, develop cumulative benchmark assessments using SBAC blueprints.

3rd Grade- ELA/Math Outs, Assessment Analysis of schools with high growth; next steps, use data from past 4 years of testing to identify trends.

4th Grade- Common Benchmarks; next steps, Analyze results from group decision-making matrix, training/creation of benchmark assessments using SBAC blueprints.

5th Grade- Ways to make Report Card more parent friendly, 21st Century Skills on Report Card; next steps, Analyze framework language on grading/grading scales/21st Century Skills, potentially examine data/language on semester vs. trimester on student achievement, continue seeking proposed enhancements to report card to make more parent friendly.

6th Grade- Report Card Grading, 21st Century Skills on Report Card; next steps, Brainstorm ideas for set criteria (comments, verbiage, grading scale, 21st Century Skills), Review literature on grading practices in general (including SBAC verbiage).
