"Each of us has a vision of good and of evil. We have to encourage people to move towards what they think is good... Everyone has his own idea of good and evil and must choose to follow the good and fight evil as he conceives them. That would be enough to make the world a better place." ~~ Pope Francis
Every person is born with the ability to do the unthinkable to others. Whether they use or abuse that ability is not something that we as humans can figure out.
So many women in my family have been subjected to evil, including me. Abuse, being around alcoholics and drug addicts, bullies and all of the above are just a few things that lead me to my beliefs. And I know what you're thinking " Not everyone is an addict or an abuser ?" Well you're correct but that doesn't mean everyone does not have the capability to perform an act of evil or brutality. I have had first hand experience with evil and I want everyone to know how evil effects our society and the people that live in it.
Why is this a timely topic?
This is a perfect topic for this day and age with all of the violence and discrimination occurring in our communities each and every day. It's time to sit down and discuss really what the problems are in our society, why are people the way they are? How do they change from being an amazing person to a bully? Or vise versa. We have to fix our ways so there is no more evil in this world.
We all live in a society where we just turn the other cheek to both the good and the bad. People are so indifferent about what is actually happening right in front of their eyes. If it isn't happening to them they don't care, but what if it was happening to you? People being able to do harm in any way to another person is just plain wrong. If people are doing something wrong in the community people just sit there and watch either not thinking anything of it or just because the don't want to say anything and something come back onto them.
In modern society, domestic violence and abuse is seen in many forms. The "abuser" will say things like " You made me mad" , or " I can't help being angry". Experts say that abusers will have some sort of zone out moment where they will snap and not realize what they are doing until after it is done. The abusers know what they are doing. They try to make you think that they are sorry and will never do it again, but with anger problems like most abusers have it can go back and forth in the blink of an eye. They unlock the potential to do whatever they want to the person that they are supposed to love without even thinking twice if that isn't unthinkable I don't know what is.

In the Lucifer Effect, all of the prisoners were volunteers and so were the guards. In all of the time that they spent in the mock prisons the guards really sunk deep into their roles and started to really become that person. They would give out punishments without any explanation as to why the prisoners had to do push-ups or sit-ups etc. they would make them sing their numbers or say them cheerleader style just so that they could make fun of them with the justification that they were just playing a part. As soon as the mock guards were given their roles it was like flipping a switch. All of these guards were capable of doing the unthinkable to others they just didn't unlock the ability until they were forced to play the part.

Terrorist organizations such as Al Qaeda, or ISIS are another good example of the ability to do the major unthinkable to others. On September 11, 2001 Al Qaeda hijacked 2 US airplanes full of passengers. They ran them down targeting the White House but hitting the World Trade Centers twin towers killing thousands of people. There was more to that day but on to the next. ISIS organization kidnapped over 350 girls and enslaved them for sex in just 2015. These people did terrible things to people who did nothing to them without even blinking an eye because they wanted something. They went tot the extreme of killing and harming innocent people just to get what they want and it didn't even phase them.
When people are put in a position of power they do things that they know are wrong without thinking twice. " I decided to force feed him, but he wouldn't eat. I let the food slide down his face. I didn't believe it was me doing it. I hated myself for making him eat. I hated him for not eating. I hated the reality of human behavior. " This is a quote from a diary of one of the guards during the Standford Prison Experiment. He said this and was thinking about forcing someone to eat and immediately changed how he was acting when he realized that he was wrong, and he realized what he had done to someone. He hated the reality of how fast people change and how quickly evil consumes and controls.
It's a crazy world out there. Everybody is different and nothing can change that. But, we can change how they act. The Lucifer Effect and domestic violence are two great examples of how fast people can change for better and for worse. It's time to realize how our actions impact our everyday lives.
"The truth is you don't know what is going to happen tomorrow. Life is a crazy ride, and nothing is guaranteed." ~~ Eminem
