Starkey Media Center Mrs. Kurleman - Media Specialist

Welcome to the Starkey Elementary Media Center, otherwise known as "THE BEARS' DEN". A place to gather, read, imagine, research, design, and create.

March is WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH. Come to the media center to "check out" some famous women. We have a great deal of information on the accomplishments and contributions of these outstanding women.

Starkey Elementary was proud to.celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. Classes had so much fun listening to the guest readers in the media center.

Congratulations to the Starkey Book Bears who represented our school at the annual Battle of the Books. They did an awesome job representing Starkey at the District Battle.

My name is Mrs. Kurleman. I have worked for Pinellas County Schools for 11 years and this is my sixth year as a media specialist. I am excited to be at Starkey Elementary to help build a strong library program that supports the needs of ALL students and teachers. I plan to accomplish this by creating a unique space for students to check out books, participate in media lessons, research topics of interest, and visualize, design, and create in our new "makerspace area".

3rd graders learn about being safe online.
Ms. Bailey's class
Ms. Kleinsorge’s class demonstrated their knowledge of fables, fairy tales, and folk tales by creating their own individual SWAY presentations.
Students learn how to research using WebPath express on Destiny. They learned about famous African Americans in honor of Black History month.
  1. The Bears’ Den has undergone a huge transformation since August. All 10,000 books have been moved to create a more organized and welcoming space. We won a new Edison maker table, and new books are on the shelves. Most exciting is the beautiful new carpet in the media center. Students are coming in for lessons and book checkouts! Starkey students are finding their media center to be a place of discovery, design, reading and fun!!

Check out our new carpeting! Thank you Ms. Chaffin for making our media center look so great!
Our bilingual section is growing!

Check back often to see what's happening in the "Starkey Bears' Den". Each month's focus will be highlighted here!
