Defining your expertise profile

We recognize that you may have many specific areas of expertise; however, on TopLink we’ve grouped your expertise within one of our 120+ broader knowledge topic areas, which the Forum calls “Insight Areas”. The Insight Areas cover everything from economies and global issues to specific industries and systems. We find that Insight Areas are an easy way to dive into the Forum’s collective knowledge on a particular issue by reading curated articles, looking over reports, viewing visualizations, and seeing other experts on that topic. Your invitation letter to the Expert Network displays your area(s) of expertise based on your previous engagement with the Forum or the areas of expertise that an individual nominated you for during the application process.

Do not hesitate to reach out to us to further expand or refine your area of expertise. Within each Insight Area are “key issues”, which are the key trends or drivers of change for each area. These key issues were identified through discussions within our expert community and are constantly evolving.

Given the broad nature of the Forum’s Insight Areas, TopLink might not be able to perfectly reflect your specific area(s) of expertise; however, if you would like to add or remove an area of expertise from your profile, please send a request to our team at ExpertNetwork@weforum.org.

Following your interests (The Knowledge Section)

Whereas one of the goals of the Expert Network is to foster collaboration across different Insight Areas, the Knowledge Section of TopLink allows you to dive deeper into a specific area even if you don’t consider yourself an expert in that area.

To follow an Insight Area, go to the Knowledge Section at the top of the page. Once in the Knowledge Section, it will display any Insight Areas that you are currently following. If you would like to view the full list of the Forum’s 120+ Insight Areas, under “Explore Insight Areas”, click “All”. You can also sort by “Economies”, “Global Issues”, “Industries”, and “System Initiatives”. To follow an Insight Area, click the box next to “Following” and a checkmark will appear to show that you have successfully followed that Insight Area. Clicking on the name of the specific Insight Area will take you to the respective Insight Area page. Here you can read specific articles in the feed curated from our Knowledge Engine, start specific discussions for and with experts in that area, generate briefings, and view the Insight Area’s Transformation Map.

What is a Transformation Map?

In an increasingly complex world, the Forum’s Transformation Maps are visual strategy tools that help provide contextual intelligence. A Transformation Map provides the overall context of a particular Insight Area and identifies the drivers of change, the actors, the issues, the initiatives related to a specific to topic and its evolving development. Transformation Maps illustrate the interconnections among diverse topics and help make sense of our world’s growing complexities.
