PATIENT STORIES: ROSEMARIE GARIOLO SURGERY HELPED ROSEMARIE LOSE WEIGHT. AND HELPED A SON GAIN BACK HIS MOM.

I was a normal sized child and when I got into my 20’s I started gaining weight. And then I had children, and after each child, I gained probably 20-30 pounds. I had chronic headaches, exhaustion, pain in my feet, my knees, my ankles. The decision was to have Bariatric surgery. Now I can go out for a walk with my son and go for a hike -- I can be there for him. I am so thankful to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital. Dr. Weiss, who was my surgeon, is amazing. He had explained to me everything that was going to be done, how it was going to be done, and what I would feel afterwards. Although I was nervous, it was one of the best choices I ever made. I can be involved in my son’s life, who I cherish.

He said to me, "Mommy, I can put my hands around your waist and touch my hands." To me that is a victory, and not just for me, but for my family.

metabolic & bariatric services

Bariatric Surgery is a life changing event that requires a team approach for long-term success. The team at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital’s Institute for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery works with each individual patient to ensure that the proper pre- and post-procedure support is provided.

The SLCH Institute for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery offers Lap- Band and Sleeve Gastrectomy. Each surgery has a unique profile of effectiveness, safety and risks. Our team of expert surgeons will help you choose the right operation for you. Our surgeons are very experienced in laparoscopy, and therefore, all of our surgeries are performed laparoscopically.

Procedures

The Sleeve Gastrectomy restricts the amount of food you can eat by reducing the size of your stomach significantly. In addition to the restriction, there is a reduction in the production of a hunger hormone, known as Ghrelin, as a result of removing a large part of the stomach.

Sleeve Gastrectormy

The Lap-Band® is a very safe, effective, and reversible surgical tool to assist patients with weight loss and maintenance of their weight loss. The properly adjusted band reduces physical hunger and provides satiety with small meals.
