The Soul of the World Secret to Life By: Lina Nguy // per: 6

"Everyday was the same, and when each day is the same as the next, it's because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day the sun rises. " (27)
As the sun rises every morning, we wake up thinking of the errands we have to run, the chores, and the job we have. But, what we don't notice are the good things that we shouldn't take for granted in the approaching day as the sun glares shine right through the blinds symbolizing the beautiful and bright day ahead of us. Each and everyday is new day to experience a new adventure, and possibly the beginning to a new life. Everyday, we only eat the breakfast on our table, dread the classes we have to go to, and come home to our beds again to only sleep and repeat the same the next day. Now, let's change the perspective of that. Be thankful to the person that wakes up early to create a homemade breakfast for you, to the teachers that stay up late and go out of their way to create new lesson plans and teach you, and to the work your guardian puts into their job to buy a bed for you. The next day you wake up, try something new. Who knows you might find a new track towards your life.
"In the long run, what people think about shepherds and bakers become more important for them than their own personal legends" (25)
This quote is great life advice because all the time people get caught up in worrying about what other people think about them and their choices rather than doing things simply because they enjoy it and make a person feel happy. As I entered middle school all I cared about was what brand my clothes were, if I had new shoes, how my hair looked, and who I hung out with. But as time progressed, I realized that it doesn't matter who you are as long as you love what you do and would spend your lifetime doing it without regrets, go for it. Whether it is playing a sport, travelling, writing a book, or even helping the community. Just remember that whatever your personal legend is and what you're here right now for, go do it with a smile and never look back.
"But instead of being saddened, he was happy. He no longer had to seek food and water for the sheep; he could go in search of his treasure, instead. He has not a cent in his pocket, but he has faith." (42)
In life, you’ll be once comfortable with things, but things and people change and you have no other choice but to be hopeful and grateful for everything as well as all the lessons you’ve been taught. A few years ago, my family and I took a roadtrip to Canada and on our way back from the trip we spent some time in Seattle, Washington. As our trip was coming to an end, we took a stop at a restaurant down a shady road. After our delightful meal of food, laughter, and stories we leave the restaurant to see glass lying on the floor. You guessed it, it was from the glass from our car. After hours of despair of the lost of souvenirs, clothes, electronics, and more I realized now that if the burglars never needed the money, they would've never taken it. Along that process, we met and got to know a lady from that neighborhood and a waiter from the restaurant we were eating at. I'm appreciative towards the burglars and they've taught my family and I a very important lesson, to not bring valuables on a trip.
“Because wherever your heart is, that is where you’ll find your treasure.” (128)
The author uses heart in a connotative meaning through this part of the story as he contrasts and compares the difference between your heart, love, and passion to your fear and nightmare. Sometimes your love and what you’re dedicated to is right in front of you and is what means the most to you. At times, people feel as if they need to travel somewhere and find their destiny and experience the wonders of the world as if their life is so terrible, but while you’re on the pathway you think of your loved ones and realize that your treasure is what you grew up doing, the people you’ve met, and the experiences that what makes that place special.
“Because when we love, we always strive to become better than we are.” (151)
This portrays the power of love and how people and your experiences with them can change and shape you to who you are today. Throughout your life, there will be people who you especially love and admire to meet. Love is so powerful and strong (like the sun & wind) that it’ll make you fear of their love, but be the best you to gain what you love. The sun is a strong source of the community and shines bright, but if you get too close it could damage your eyes. Although my best friend annoys the poop out of me, I still love her because of her honesty, compassionate heart, and craziness. She has taught me many lessons, inspired me to try new things, and pushed me to be the best I can be.
“And when you can’t go back, you have to worry only about the best way of moving forward.” (77)
No matter what happened in the past, it is over now and going back is not a choice. People and their feelings change all the time and there are past moments that we want to go back to but there are also moments that we want to burn in our souls. Everyday is a new day to focus on the future and take bigger steps to accomplish your goals and do what is most important to you. There is no way of going back to change mistakes, so the only choice is to move on and learn from those faults. As an example, I am currently running as a secretary candidate for KIWIN'S. Throughout the entire process of filling out my application, talking through the interview, and the speech there were countless mistakes that I have made. Even though I may not get the position, there is always a chance for me to run once again next year. What has mattered to me the most was the chance to experience the stressful journey and to outlook everything I did wrong and improve it in the future.
