Technology Connection People of all ages are connected through their technology all around the world

Body Image: How someone views themselves

Cat fishing: Luring someone with false information

Distress: Causing anxiety or pain

Engulfed: Take over completely

Fraudulent: Criminal activity

Scam: Scheme usually having to do with fraud

According to Jane E. Brody from the New York Times “approximately 2 billion people use smartphones worldwide”. This shows that even though the people are spread out they can still stay in touch with friends and family from other states, countries, or even continents. As Ray Sanchez stated in his article for abc “Kamiyah Mobley was kidnapped at birth and found 18 years later by technology. Tips were sent into the local police station via calls, texts, and email”. This helped identify the missing child and get her location. The tips were sent in using technology, without the technology used she would not have been found and would still be missing today. Altogether, technology has helped shape the modern world today and helped make many improvements.

Why is technology important in helping families connect?....

What are the benefits for technology that connect families around the world?

Some of the benefits from technology are stated in the google search video “two children, from two different countries talked to their grandparents and learned that they were each friends with each other. They soon came in contact with one another and helped send their grandparents to the other country to see their old time best friend on their birthday”. This video showed how people around the world were connected by technology. Another example of people connected around the world was in the article by Roy Gargi “where a mother left her children in Mexico and came to America to work and get a better life for them and then send for them to come across the border, since her children were young she stayed in touch with them by calling them once a week and skyping them once a week”. Her story is a great example of how children and parents stay connected around the world when they cannot see each other everyday.

What positive and negatives thing can technology be used for?...

Are there any negative side effects that have come from technology?

Technology has its ups and downs one of the negative effects technology has created is distracted driving. The proquest article touched on the topic of catfishing “about ⅔ of people that online date have been catfished at least once in their life”. Catfishing is when their online profile looks nothing they do in person. This can have a very negative because people feel like they are having a relationship with someone but, then they realize the person they’ve been talking to looks nothing like them when they meet in person. Another negative part of technology is shown in the Jane E. Brody article which states the relative scam “hackers call or email families saying their grandparents are in the hospital or jail so they need money to get help, and some families send them money causing them to be scammed into losing hundreds of dollars”. This scam caused by technology hackers has a very negative effect on people using the internet on a regular basis most don’t fall for it but the ones that do lose everything. Overall, technology has many positive things but the negative effects are more alarming.

Can relying on technology too much be a bad thing?...

Are we too reliant on technology?

Ray Sanchez talked about how many people use technology on a daily basis “everyday people spend approximately 7 hours on their technology”. This technology can be used for a variety of reasons school, work, talking to extended family, or just being on social media. 7 hours a day is a long time to be using technology this is just one of the examples of how people are becoming reliant on technology. The ProQuest article I read also said “teen rely on social media to decide their own body image”. If this fact can relate to most teens, it has a huge negative effect on how teens view themselves because they look at models and expect to look just like them. This can have many teens relying on other people's opinions to feel good about themselves causing them to starve themselves and try to look like models. All in all teens in particular are the most reliant on technology.

Will technology shape the future?

How will our future be affected by technology?

The google search video made it seem that “our future will be affected by how much we choose to use the technology surrounding us”. This statement from the google search video really proved that we the people will be the deciding factor on how technology affects us in the future. As Roy Gargi once said “technology is our future, we will rely on it, and it will be a necessity to life, people won’t be able to live without technology”. This startling fact may not be true right now but it is a prediction for the future and if it comes true people may be so engulfed in their technology that they don’t even notice or enjoy the life around them.
