Outreach Boy Scouts of america

"Help a boy prepare for Life"

The Outreach Division is an after-school based program that gives boys ages 6-10 years old the opportunity to be a part of Scouting. The program emphasizes team spirit, group cooperation, physical awareness, character development and citizen training. This after school program is to spark an interest for Scouting in these hard to reach youth. The Program then channels these boys into appropriate existing traditional Scouting units in nearby communities.

This unique program serves mostly Hispanic youth living in hard to serve areas of the inner city where gangs, drugs, and violence are the controlling forces in the community. Most parents have little time to spend with their children's activities we have a staff of 13 program aids that deliver innovative strategies and program to the boys. Schools, community centers, youth clubs and apartment buildings were identified as the best delivery site for the program.

This After-School Scouting carefully designed programs that have proven to be a powerful and effective alternative for youth whose communities are unable to support a traditional scouting unit. Outreach relies on funding through foundations, grants, and person donations. With funding we are able to serve over 1200 youth in 42 sites throughout the San Fernando Valley.
