York Community High School hosted a St. Baldrick's Foundation pep rally on Friday, March 24th at 2:30 PM in the Green and White gym. Staff and students have raised $20,000 in pledges to support childhood cancer research.
The original goal was $10,000, but the stakes were raised and support escalated when Assistant Principal Ryan Doherty and York grad announced that he would lose his long locks if donations topped $15,000. Others who have agreed to be shorn for the cause are as follows.
Drew McGuire (Assistant Principal)
Kevin Poduska (English Department Chair)
Mike DiNovo (Social Studies Department Chair)
Joe O'Malley (Teacher)
Chris McCoy (Student)
Glory Jaquat (Student)
Chris McCoy who lost the fundraising challenge, receives a pie in the face from teacher Joe O'Malley.
Ryan Doherty (Are we ready?)
Dan Corrigan (Liaison Officer)
Carter Strauss (Student) & Steven Strauss (Parent)
It was for a great cause!
"We would also like to recognize Samantha and Amanda Neely, who are not shaving their heads, but who have organized their own fundraisers to raise over $2000 for the cause," noted organizer and York High School Spanish teacher Joe O'Malley. Assisting with coordination of the March 24 event are York secretaries Kelly Corry and Bridget Baker.
