The opposition is sometimes called the alternative government
Responsibilities of the opposition include
- Closlely examining the work of the government
- Asking the government to explain its choices and actions
- Debating and examining bills and proposed laws in parliament
- Examining important issues
The oppisition leader sits in the House of Representatives ( Bill Shorten) Members of the opposition are selected by the leader of the opposition to be shadowed ministers who are responsible for reviewing the work of the ministers. The shadow cabinet, the leading descion making group in the opposition made up of the opposition leader and the high level shadow ministers.
