The Wooden O The globe theater is the best place for a play based on its construction, actors, and play writers written from SHakespeare.

The beginning of It All

Play Writer

Quote # 1: “Writers of poetry, short stories, novels, plays, and creative nonfiction—often have the most freedom in the expression of their ideas. There are other types of writing jobs that tend to offer less freedom for the individual writer. There are two main kinds of writers, staff writers and free-lance writers. Staff writers are professional writers who work for a salary. Free-lance writers get paid only if a publisher buys their work. Free-lancers write most books—both fiction and nonfiction; dramas; poems; screenplays; and short stories, as well as many newspaper articles” (Hemly 2).

Commentary: find the play writer very interesting especially when there are more than one writing job. Shakespeare is a very amazing play writer and I wish he could have made more plays. Many people wouldn't agree with me but it's true about how amazing he is. He is very creative and now that I found out about there being more jobs for writing I think he would be better with the play writer job.

Construction

Quote #2: “Little is known about the Globe's design except what can be learned from maps and evidence from the plays presented there. The Globe was round or polygonal on the outside and probably round on the inside. The theater may have held as many as 3,000 spectators. Its stage occupied the open-air space, with a pit in front for standing viewers. The stage was surrounded by several levels of seating. In 1613, the Globe burned down. It was rebuilt on the same foundation and reopened in 1614. The Globe was shut down in 1642 and torn down in 1644. A reconstruction of the theater was completed 200 yards (183 meters) from the original site in 1996, and it officially opened in 1997”(Seidel 2).

Commentary: The globe theater was round and held about 3,000 people. It kept being burned down and rebuilt; torn down and rebuilt. It officially reopened in 1997 and now people around the world come to see the plays Shakespeare had made along time ago. It has few levels to watch and the top is the best seats in the house because you are blocked from the rain or bad weather. Second is almost the best and last is ground view which the people put there are poor and called groundlings.

Actors

Qoute #3: “Drama is an art form that tells a story through the speech and actions of the characters in the story. Most drama is performed by actors who impersonate the characters before an audience in a theater. Although drama is a form of literature, it differs from other literary forms in the way it is presented.Drama probably gets most of its effectiveness from its ability to give order and clarity to human experience”(Novick 1-2).

Commentary: Drama is a form of art that makes someone act a different character to persuade and show emotion to the viewers. Actors impersonate the character to the audience to make them feel what the character is feeling. Drama is a form of literature and gives clarity to human experience.

Globe Theater

Quote #4: “The original theatre was built in 1599 by Cuthbert Burbage. It was burned down after a cannon, fired during a performance of Henry VIII, set light to the thatch. The site was rediscovered in October 1989 near the remains of the contemporaneous Rose Theatre. The new Globe Theatre opened to the public with a performance of Shakespeare's The Two Gentlemen of Verona, the first stage production to be held on the site of the Elizabethan theatre in more than 380 years.

Commentary: The globe theater was huge and creative. Many people loved going inside watching what Shakespeare created because of how creative he was. His writing came to life in that theater. Sad he died on his birthday, he was an amazing creator.

Shakespeare

Quote #5: “While little is known of Shakespeare's boyhood, he probably attended the grammar school in Stratford, where he would have been educated in the classics, particularly Latin grammar and literature. Whatever the veracity of Ben Jonson's famous comment that Shakespeare had "small Latine, and less Greeke," much of his work clearly depends on a knowledge of Roman comedy, ancient history, and classical mythology.” (Seidel 1).

Commentary: Shakespeare is a man who grew from a small place into a big future and fame. He only knew little Latin and less Greek. He was very talented and inspires me to try my best in writing since I want to be a writer. Sad he died on his birthday though, he was an amazing man.

Henry V.

Quote #6: “Henry V is a five-act historical play by the English dramatist William Shakespeare. Its full title is King Henry V. It was written and performed in 1599, possibly the first Shakespeare play staged at the Globe Theater, owned by Shakespeare and his acting company, in the Southwark borough of London. A passage in the play’s prologue refers to the shape of the Globe: “Or may we cram / Within this wooden O the very casques / That did affright the air at Agincourt?” The play was first published in 1600 in a severely shortened and mangled version.” (Seidel 1).

Commentary: The play was the possibly the first play in the Globe Theater to ever be shown. It made a big hit there and made the Globe Theater famous. Shakespeare's acting company became famous thanks to the play "Henry V."
