Vocational Service calls on us to empower others by using our unique skills and expertise to address community needs and help others discover new professional opportunities and interests. January is Rotary’s Vocational Service Month, a great time to leverage vocational service in your club projects and activities.

Here are five ways you can incorporate vocational service in your club activities:

Host a club meeting at your work place and share about your profession; take time to learn about fellow members’ occupations.

Use your skills and expertise to serve a community.

Practice your profession with integrity, and inspire others to behave ethically through your words and actions.

Work with local businesses to create mentorship, internship, or practicum opportunities to help young people achieve their career goals.

Guide and encourage others in their professional development.

I recently read the book “Make your Bed” by Admiral William H McRaven

In this simple 10 chapter book he talks about how small changes can change the world but we cant do it alone, to me this fits in perfect with this year’s Rotary Theme, Rotary Connects the World, if you have the time please watch his 2014 Commencement Speech to the Graduates of the University Texas.

Register today online in the dacdb calendar for the Human Trafficking Seminar. You are welcome to be bring Non-Rotarians and Guest, please register them so the committee can accommodate.

Come and join us for a Saturday to learn more about Rotary. Our classes provide an in-depth look into Rotary. It’s very easy to sign up. Go to our District Calendar that is on our District 6980 website. Scroll down to February 1, 2020.

You will see RLI. Click on it and it will guide you through it.

Part 1 hopes to enhance your ability to grow within your club. What opportunities does Rotary offer to you? How can you bring your passion for a better community into your club?

Part 2 helps you analyze your club to attract new members, create and improve service projects and fundraising ideas. You will be sharing your clubs ideas and taking back ideas that are working in other clubs.

Part 3 is the much bigger picture of Rotary International. How are we helping people throughout the World. How can you and your club get more involved?

If you have any questions or problems signing up, don’t hesitate to contact me at tracy.belton@raymondjames.com or my office # is 352-253-5244.

Many thanks and I look forward to seeing everyone there!

Tracy Belton, RLI Chairperson District 6980
