Bulger Veterinary Hospital A short history

The year is 1978,Dr. Prentiss has purchased Bulger Animal Hospital and the tale begins.

Dr. Prentiss bought the hospital from Dr. Bulger. He didn't change the name.

The team was made up of 2 doctors and 6 receptionist/technicians

Our patients and their families have always been the heart and soul of our hospital.

In 1988 Bulger started to take on a more familiar shape.

The 90s brought more growth

In 1992 we started providing 24 hour veterinary emergency services.

In 1998 Dr. Ruth Marrion, PhD, DACVO joined our team, launching our Specialty Medicine services. She is still treating patients at Bulger today.

Grooming was available at Bulger too, back then we were your pet's one-stop-health-and-beauty-shop.

In 1999 we installed Vetstar on the Dell computers at the hospital.

We added e-mail too, but it was really for our CFO, and nobody thought it would ever take.

During the '00s Bulger got one sister hospital, then a second!

Bulger continued to quietly grow and flourish as it always had:

by relying on a solid foundation of compassionate care, kindness, loyalty, continuing education for our teams, and honest and open communication.

Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital in Woburn. Opened in 2001.
We moved across the street in 2006. What a day that was!
We opened the doors to Port City in Portsmouth, NH in 2008.

The 2000-teens(?) is where we are today.

What once was InTown Veterinary Group, became IVG Hospitals.

In 2010 we rebranded the organization.
InTown Veterinary Group became IVG Hospitals.
IVG MetroWest opened its doors in December 2011.
SAVES in Lebanon, NH joined the family in 2014.
Capital District in Latham, NY joined Bulger's growing family in 2015.

In 2018 Bulger turns 40.

What better way to celebrate than with a new building and a new promise to our teams, our clients, our partner veterinarians and our communities.

We can't help but look back in awe at how far we have all come together.

We couldn't have done it without our loyal clients, our beloved patients, our team of skilled doctors, technicians, and management and client care staff.

We also could not have done it without our solid network of referring veterinarians.

For all that we have been, all that we are and all we will be, we thank you.
