A Singer / Songwriter from Norfolk in the UK but now living in Southern Spain. Recording his songs in the corner of a bedroom, but connected to the world and conspiring with musicians from the USA, Italy, Germany, Canada, Spain and Norwich and Newcastle
Previously frontman of 'The Osborne Files' ("the second hardest thing for me to leave behind in the UK") and before that the one man band 'the dolphin post' (who "split due to musical similarities") Ian is now sipping Sangria in the Spanish sun but "still writing songs about love loneliness and the laundry".
Lyrics and Credits
Cathy Come Home
Hear your footsteps in the distance
and it sounds like the rhythm of my heart
Even when we're not together, well
It doesn't feel we're apart
See your shadow fall on my wall
Your footfalls in my hall
Cathy Come Home to me
Cathy Come Home
.
Even when you're on a distant shore
Your footprints are left in my sand
Even with my arms outstretched
your hand is safe in my hand
See your shadow fall on my wall
Your footfalls in my hall
Cathy Come Home to me
Cathy Come Home
.
Want to hear of your adventures
Everything that you did to please
Waiting for the creak and the squeak
You're both my lock and my key
See your shadow fall on my wall
Your footfalls in my hall
Cathy Come Home to me
Cathy Come home

A Single Love (from two hearts)
Combined and entwined
I find it hard
To know where I end and you start
A single thought
From two minds
A simple love
From two hearts
.
Content but wanting more
It’s strange
To win this race before we start
A single thought
From two minds
A simple love
From two hearts
.
It takes me
It makes me
Count my joy
A simple division
of two into one
.
Please be pleased
If this never ends
No end in sight just a start
A single thought
From two minds
A simple love
From two hearts
.

Elementary My Dear
He was looking for a map
For the new ground that he’d found
All he found was what he’d missed
And drew us up a shopping list
He never thought he could find it
However you define it
Pleading eyes seem to chastise
And we close our minds
And raise our eyes
.
Self awareness is a gift
And its one he might need
And in a perfect post ironic twist
He calls on us to assist
He never thought he could find it
However you define it
Pleading eyes seem to chastise
And we close our minds
And raise our eyes
.
And I wonder that he can't see
There's other ways to be
Citrus bearing fruit, a tree
It's elementary
He never thought he could find it
However you define it
Pleading eyes seem to chastise
And we close our minds
And raise our eyes
.

A Season of You
There was a time when the Byrds would sing
About the turns, and the changing of things
If there's a reason I have one that's true
I need a season A Season of You
Autumn's for Watching
Winter's to Wait
Spring for the Feeling
That Summer's Late
.
There was a time, not what's the time
When my thoughts, they can cross the line
Is it really a crime, cos I drew the line
If I see the light, does it make it summer time
Autumn's for Watching
Winter to wait
Spring for the Feeling
Summer's Late
Seasons shift, we can be bold
Seasons change, we can't be told
.
There's an ebb and flow, there's a passage of time
Please don't be long, I'm waiting in line
There is a reason, I've shown you one that's true
I have a reason... And the reason is you
Autumn's for watching
Winter's to wait
Spring for the feeling
Summer's late

The Taste of a Tear
It's just a mood
It will surely pass
Like each phase of the moon
It just won't last
The taste that I fear, is the salt of a sea
Any salt of a tear, you could shed over me
.
Here comes the rain
It's pouring down
Like a torrent of your tears
There's enough to drown
The taste that I fear, is the salt of the sea
Any salt from a tear you could shed over me
.
When your tears they appear
Let them be tears of joy
And any fears that you fear
Put them away like toys
The taste that I fear, is the salt of the sea
Any salt from a tear you shed over me
.

All I Sea
I've been staring out to see
If the waves you're waving are for me
I've been throwing out a line
Trying to find words I know you won't mind
All I see I'm all at sea over you
.
I wonder about the sure
Those that never seem to have a doubt
And believe they deserve so much more
And never doubt about the about
All I see I'm all at sea over you
.
All I see, I'm all at sea, I'm all at sea over you
.
I'm looking out to see
If the lay of the land is just a lie
And if we will ever see
Where the land touches the sky
All I see I'm all at sea over you
.

These Eyes are Wide Open
I know I can't be the first
Maybe not even the last
But I'd like to be the one
The one that lasts
These eyes they are wide open
This mind is never closed
This heart it has just spoken
And these arms are so close
.
I know that I don't own you
I know how much I owe
Have no hold on you
But so want to hold
These eyes they are wide open
This mind is never closed
This heart it has just spoken
These arms are so close
.
Days seem they seem to pass
Soon become the past
I can't be the first
Just the one that lasts
These eyes they are wide open
This mind is never closed
This heart it has just spoken
These are arms are close
.

Bruised
People say I have to move on
It's not easy, she got the car
People say I have to take steps
Don't they know I don't know how I got this far
But when they look in my eyes
You can see it, their surprise when they realise
There's no light in my eyes, no life in my life
All that is left is a hole
Shaped like you
.
People say there are fish in the sea
Don't they know the last one swallowed me whole
People say I have to get out there
Don't they know it hurts too much here
But when they look in my eyes, you can see it
Their surprise when they realise
There's no light in my eyes, no life in my life
All that's left is a hole
Shaped like you
.
There's nothing, that you can do
To hurt me, more than you did, you did before
There's a bruise on my heart, the shape of your heart
There's a bruise on my soul, it's the shape of your soul
There's a bruise on my life
The shape of you
.

Every Day a Part
Every day we will find
There's so much we sing and say
People they just, they can't see
How we could stand this way
Did you see?, could you see? can you see?
What else could I do?
.
Every day, we will find
There's a vision I hold so dear
It stands and it waits over there
Waiting to to see what we fear
Did you see?, could you see? can you see?
What else could I do?
.
Every day you're a part of my day
If there's a hole, you're only my whole
We have this whole, so it's only a hole
A hole to fill in parts
Did you see?, could you see? can you see?
What else could I do?
.

Pounding Rain
Come round to the sound of pounding rain
A momentary moment of peace retained
Pulled the rug from beneath me again
Wait for the fall, wait for the pain
We open doors and then build a fence
The best attack is to take offence
We close the doors and a bigger fence
Can't understand it makes no sense
.
My heathen mind won't think the thoughts
That let me think it's not wrong
Turn back your back not face the facts
Is the best I can do is this song?
(Chorus followed by a very British Rap)
Solo
The headlines scream our world won't cope
The only hope is pull up the rope
Telling lies that demean our lives
We wash our hands in blood and soap
Chorus followed by more British Rap

Hang in the Air
If the leaves on the trees have fallen
There's still a soft summer breeze
If our hopes come from our memories
They're so easy to please
Oh my love, it's a sweet thing
This thing that we share
With the echoes of first loves
That hang in the air
.
There's two paths that we've taken
Each one is our own
With moments of crossroads
But the bird hasn't flown
Oh my love it's a sweet thing
This thing that we share
With echoes of first loves
That hang in the air
.
It's a whisper of good morning
To start every day
Enjoyment in silence
When there's so much we say
(Chorus)

The Sea Fell
The Sea Fell is a fog and mist that rolls inland from the sea. Flowing in waves, it can roll up hills engulfing villages while leaving land all around clear..
This song developed from an initial instrumental and the vocal was improvised looking out of the window at the approaching sea fell
Did you see the Sea Fell?
Rise up to the sky
