What Is Required To Be A Vet?

You meed a post secondary Education. Would-be veterinarians must hold a bachelor's degree at a four-year college before moving on to veterinary medicine school. Undergraduate work should focus on chemistry, biology, zoology, physiology, microbiology and anatomy.

What Animals Do Vets Work With?

Veterinarians care for the health of animals and work to improve public health. Most vets treat small pets, including dogs, cats, and gerbils. But a few focus on large animals, such as sheep, cows, and horses. Large-animal vets usually drive to ranches and stables where their patients live.

How Much Does A Vet Make?

The median annual wage for veterinarians was $88,490 in May 2015. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $53,210, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $158,260. Veterinarians often work additional hours. Some work nights or weekends, and they may have to respond to emergencies outside of scheduled work hours.

What Are The Duties Of A Vet?

Vets do many different things everyday. A veterinarians day is always different. Some of the things vets do is they examine animals to diagnose their health problems, treat and dress wounds, perform surgery on animals, test for and vaccinate against diseases, operate medical equipment, such as x-ray machines, advise animal owners about general care, medical conditions, and treatments, prescribe medication, and euthanize animals.
