Monkton Park Newsletter 21st September 2018

Harvest

Next week we will be celebrating harvest with the children. Any donations of dried or tinned foods would be really appreciated (please can children bring these into class). These will be taken to the Salvation Army once collected.

Riding Scooters and Bikes on Site

Please can we ask children to push their bikes and scooters when on site. This is just to help minimise the risk of accidents particularly as we have so many pre-schoolers, young children and pushchairs on site in the morning and at home time.

Monkton Park Conker Championships

In week commencing 1st October we will be holding Monkton Park's first Conker Championships! The tournament will run each day at break time and the winner announced on the Friday.

Open Classrooms

We will again be running an open classroom session again this term (3rd October 3-4pm). For those who haven't come along to these sessions before it is simply a chance to sit in the classroom with your child , have a look through their books and talk about their learning with them.

Parent Forum

Parent Forum is an opportunity for Mr Rafferty to share future plans for the school, current developments and answer any questions from parents. There will be a parent forum on 8th October at 9am (hall) and 7pm (classroom tbc). If you have any specific questions that you would like answered during the session then please email the school office.

Pokemon Policy!

Please can we ask for no Pokemon cards (or similar) to be brought in from next week please.

1960's Day (dressing up!)

On Monday 22nd October, Monkton Park School celebrates its 60th Birthday. We would like the children to come to school dressed in 1960s clothes for a whole school celebration day. More details will follow closer to the date!

Lunch Menus

Thank you to all of the families who have used parent pay to pre book school lunches for their children. This a great help to the class teachers in the morning.

There have been a couple of amendments to the menu.

Fridays 19th October, 23rd November and 21st December have changed from Sausage Roll to Oven Baked Fish Goujons

Thursdays 27th September and 29th November have changed from Hot Dog to Southern Baked Chicken Fillet.

If you have pre-booked on ParentPay for any of these days your booking will automatically have changed to the new choice. If you do not want your child to have this then please amend.

Thank you

FOMPS News

FOMPS AGM

The FOMPS Annual General Meeting was held on Wednesday – thanks to those that attended to hear about our fundraising plans for 2018/19. Full minutes will be available in due course. We sadly said goodbye to Joanne Lennon who has stepped down as Chair. With this brings new appointments – Lorna Friis has been appointed Chair with Janine Maclean as Vice-Chair. Appointments continue for Rebecca Treweke as Treasurer and Joanne Lyons as Secretary.

A huge thank you to Jo for leading the committee for the past few years and for her commitment and enthusiasm.

Message from the new Chair of FOMPs

Firstly, a big thank you to all those who were able to come to the AGM. It is great to know there is a strong, committed and enthusiastic group of people willing to support FOMPS and its fundraising activities. Last year was such a success for both FOMPS and the school, with record breaking funds raised and a new outdoor classroom on its way - it is a credit to you all that FOMPS is now considered the epitome of primary school fundraising across Chippenham!

As our 50th year celebrations, and curriculum learning about the 1960's continue, I am really looking forward leading an exciting year of school social and fundraising events, starting with the cake and uniform sale this afternoon.

Please come along and talk to us about your ideas and any help you can provide throughout the year, especially those of you who are new to the school; FOMPS is a great way to connect with your local community.

Lorna Incoming FOMPS Chair, and mum to Finian (Pine Marten's) and Elise (Squirrel's)

Christmas Fair

We are looking for volunteers to join the sub-committee group to plan and organise this year’s school Christmas fair. We’d love to have some new faces and fresh new ideas! To get involved please email fompspta@gmail.com or speak to a member of the fomps team.

Sustainability Day - Neeld Hall

On Saturday 13th October there will be a sustainability day at the Neeld Hall. Both the Wiltshire Scrap Store and Bristol and Avon River Trust will be running activities for children during the day and there will be lots of information as to how families can help improve the environment.
