Sofonisba Anguissola italian renaissance artist

Anguissola was one of the first known female artists to be know internationally. Born in Italy in 1532 (died 1625) she was one of a few female painters and ones with non-painting fathers went on to do big things in this time period. Along with that, Sofonisba is considered one of the most successful artists of the time and has many great paintings you may have seen such as...

Three Sisters Playing Chess. Oil on canvas, 1555. Approximately 28" by 38". National Museum in Poznan.

this is quite simple and to the point, it is 3 sisters playing chess. In a less blurry setting it looks absolutely stunning

(1532-1625) Three Children with Dog, Oil on canvas, c1570-1590, 74 x 95 cm (29.13" x 37.4") Private collection

this painting is also very self explanatory. It is a portrait of 3 family members together

Portrait of Amilcare, Minerva, and Asdrubale Anguissola
