About Fred

Fred Benitez is an Educational Technologist for Eanes ISD in Austin, TX. His 14 years of experience in education involve teaching graphic design, writing curricula, facilitating professional development, and collaborating with teachers to integrate technology effectively. Fred has a passion for fostering creativity and supporting students and teachers to be content creators.

Before joining the Educational Technology team at Eanes ISD in 2016, Fred was a Digital Learning Specialist for Fort Bend ISD. Fred began his career in education in 2006 at South Garland High School, teaching Graphic Design and Illustration, Engineering Design, and Trades & Industry Career Preparation.

Fred has created and facilitated a variety of professional development sessions, technology integration lessons, and learning experiences that combine effective pedagogical strategies with a thoughtful use of technology. He has also presented at local and international conferences on educational technology topics, tools, and integration best practices. Additionally, he worked collaboratively with the Eanes ISD Educational Technology team to organize an annual Learning Festival (formerly iPadpalooza).

In addition to a career of providing teachers with technology integration training and support, Fred has also helped create district-wide events such as the robotics competition, video game design contest, and the Film Festival. Because of his background in graphic design and video production, Fred also creates multimedia content in support of department projects and district initiatives. Apple Distinguished Educator

Fred was selected to join the Apple Distinguished Educator class of 2017. The Apple Distinguished Educator Program began in 1994, when Apple recognized K-12 and higher education pioneers who are using a variety of Apple products to transform teaching and learning in powerful ways. Today it has grown into a worldwide community of over 2,500 visionary educators and innovative leaders who are doing amazing things with Apple technology in and out of the classroom.

Fred has been using Adobe software for over 23 years and has been a contributing member of the Adobe Education Exchange for the last 11 years. In this time, he has been recognized by Adobe as a featured educator and is an active member in the Adobe Education Leader program, which highlights the contributions of innovative educators who are effectively using Adobe tools and applications to promote excellence in the classroom.

Creative Problem Solving With Adobe Spark

Flex your creative problem solving skills to create social media images, webpages, and digital stories. We will explore the simple yet powerful Adobe Spark, examine integration ideas, and do some hands-on creating.

Mobile Movie Making With Apple Clips

Explore the iOS app Apple Clips and turn your mobile device into a video production studio. Add engaging elements like live titles and animated stickers on top of video clips and images to tell a compelling story! Please note: Apple Clips is an iOS only app.

3 hour Film Festival

In this session, participants will receive an overview of mobile filmmaking on the iPad, camera operating techniques, editing overviews with Adobe Rush or Apple Clips, and an opportunity to apply their learning into action by collaboratively creating a 60-second short film.

Creative Computing With Scratch

This will be a comfortable introduction to computer programming using Scratch, a free online programming language created by MIT. Learn how to create games, animations, and stories with this powerful drag and drop programming language. Please note: Laptops recommended.

Introduction to Adobe Illustrator

If you’re new to Illustrator, taking the time to understand the basics and how to use fundamental tools will go a long way towards setting you up for success. In this session, we will help you get started by diving right into Illustrator to create custom shapes, manipulate text, adjust color, and apply transforming options. Participants should bring a computer with Adobe Illustrator installed.

The Pen Tool is Mightier Than The Sword

The pen tool is arguably Adobe Illustrator’s most important tool for creating vector graphics. Get introduced to, or reminded of, the power of this tool through demonstration, hands-on instruction, independent practice, and take-home resources. A computer with Adobe Illustrator is required for this session.

Introduction to Adobe Premiere

In this session, participants will learn how to edit video using Adobe Premiere Pro. We will create video montages, manipulate on-screen graphics, practice advanced techniques, and end the day shooting and editing an original commercial.

Introduction to Adobe After Effects

In this workshop, participants will learn how to utilize Adobe After Effects to create video compositions that include motion graphics, animated typography, and advanced effects via demos, independent practice, and collaborative projects.

Increase Student Engagement With Nearpod

Learn how to transform your student devices into powerful learning tools with Nearpod. This interactive session will introduce you to Nearpod tools that you can incorporate right away. You’ll learn about ways to better check the pulse of your class through formative assessment and integrate individualized instruction.

Choice Boards and Tech Integration

In this session, participants will see an overview of various apps and web based tools they can utilize in the classroom through an interactive choice board. These tools will be broken up into two categories: creativity and teacher productivity.
