Tornado Women's Volleyball 2018 Season Preview

A season ago, under first-year head coach Dave Ulrich, the King University women's volleyball team finished third in the Conference Carolinas North Division. Ulrich has added a talented group of newcomers as the Tornado look to improve on that finish in 2018.

2017 Season Highlights

  • Led Conference Carolinas in aces per set at 2.31

CATHY SCANIFFE

Sr. | 5-9 | OH | Lorton, Va.
  • Selected third team All-Conference Carolinas
  • Seventh in Conference Carolinas with an average of 3.19 kills per set
  • Averaged 0.43 aces per set, ranking sixth in the league
  • Reached double figures in kills in all but six matches she appeared

ABBY ANDERSON

Sr. | 5-9 | S | Clarksville, Tenn.
  • One of two Tornado to start all 26 matches in 2017
  • Ranked fourth in Conference Carolinas with an average of 9.55 assists per set
  • Third in the league, averaging 0.48 aces per set

SYDNEY PIGAGE

Jr. | 5-4 | DS | West Columbia, S.C.
  • Appeared in all 26 matches in 2017, making 19 starts in the back row
  • Third on the team with 176 digs
  • Reached double figures in digs four times
  • Served up 28 aces for an average of 0.32 aces per set

VICTORIA GAUSE

Jr. | 5-9 | MH | Leesburg, Fla.
  • Started 25 of the 26 matches she appeared
  • Led King with nine solo blocks and 45 total blocks
  • Posted 91 kills from the middle

KAYLEY HOLTZCLAW

So. | 6-2 | MH | Kingsport, Tenn.
  • Appeared in 16 matches as a freshman
  • Posted 65 kills, playing in the middle and outside
  • Registered 14 blocks, including a solo stuff

EMMA CARICO

Jr. | 5-10 | OH/OPP | Kingsport, Tenn.
  • Led King with an average of 0.54 blocks per set
  • Second on the team with 44 blocks, including six solo stuffs
  • Recorded 96 kills from the middle

REMI THELE

Jr. | 6-0 | OH/OPP | Boca Raton, Fla.
  • Posted 71 kills from the outside in 12 matches
  • Added 17 digs and eight blocks

REBEKAH HILL

Jr. | 5-9 | OH/DS | Harrison, Tenn.
  • Posted 166 digs in the back row
  • Started eight of the 25 matches she appeared
  • Played outside briefly, adding 15 kills

TRISTYN LOZANO

Jr. | 5-11 | OH/OPP | Murfreesboro, Tenn.
  • Third on the team with 124 kills before having her season cut short due to injury
  • Averaged 2.34 kills per set
  • Owned an attack percentage of .165, second among Tornado
  • Added 17 blocks and 41 digs

HEAD COACH

Dave Ulrich

In his first season leading the Tornado women's volleyball program, Ulrich led King to an 11-15 mark in 2017. In Conference Carolinas play, the Tornado posted a mark of 6-8, finishing third in the north division.
