Week of Play with carmax & kaboom!, at the south texas va fisher house

The South Texas VA Fisher House, located directly adjacent to the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital in San Antonio, hosted a Week of Play event this fall incorporating the Kaboom! Imagination Playground donated by CarMax.

Kaboom's! Imagination Playground Sets are designed as innovative loose parts, that stimulate creativity and promote physical and emotional development. This is critical for families with extended stays at the Fisher House, which happens frequently with Polytrauma or Spinal Cord Injury patients.

The event kicked off with thanks from Information Technology Service Chief Simon Willett, who said support of the Fisher House and its programs are critical to helping families in their time of need while their Veteran or service member is at the hospital recovering.

Although the accommodations at the Fisher House are deluxe, the playground offers new opportunities for younger guests to play and remain engaged while their parent is healing.

"PLAY is the highest expression of human development in childhood, for it alone is the free expression of what is in a child's soul."

- Friederich Froebel

The Fisher House, and all of its great programs are made possible by two things: a wonderful staff of volunteers, and community partners like Kaboom!, CarMax and United Rentals that support Veterans and their Families. We thank you for your support!

If you or a family member traveled over 50 miles to visit a hospitalized Veteran or active duty patient at the South Texas VA, ask a VA social worker to place a Fisher House consult request in.
