Freshman Year Writing Seminar Morgan dluhy

Ede SW 2

"This also then makes me wonder if they only time I am really focusing and concentrating is when I am sitting down to do my school work and reading for a long time." - September 4th, 2016

Ede SW 13

"The voice of this essay is very informative like I mentioned above. Rose used statistics to back up his very own opinions, Rose states, “96 percent of the country’s online population uses social-networking sites.”"- November 21st, 2016

FYSW taught me the importance of proof reading not just in this specific class but for everything submitted to a professor in college. I also learned the importance of not adding extra words when writing. As you can see in my progress through our SW's I proofread my work and also added textual evidence when explaining myself.

Draft WA 1

"Distracted driving is a common problem in the United States that are killing everyone from babies, children, adults, and elders >>>This public service announcement was posted to Facebook and has successfully gained the popularity of 7. 8 million likes."-September 14th, 2016

Final Paper

"Distracted driving is a common problem in the United States that results in mortality for everyone from, babies, children, adults, and elders. Rhetoric sensitivity helped reach viewers by creating an emotional scene to help show the dangers of a horrible habit millions of people have. >>>>This public service announcement was posted to Facebook and has successfully gained the popularity of 7. 8 million likes (Diamond 1)."- September 29th, 2016

I noticed progress throughout my essays submitted in FYWS. The first draft I wrote did not have effective and professional transitions. I would simply just end one paragraph and start another one. Through feedback from professors and classmates I was able to submit a final draft where I improved my traditions, talked about the importance of rhetoric sensitivity, and used proper citations where needed.

WA 2

"It has been said that obese children are expected to become obese as adults, but yet adults are adding to the problem. According to Wolfs and his team, the public views parent behaviors and choices as a crucial aspect to the efforts of obesity reverse rates. Research has showed that parents put the blame for their child’s obesity on themselves. The records also show mothers blame themselves twice as much as the fathers (Wolfson et all, 2015)."- October 21st, 2016

Final WA 2

Once again I noticed quite a improvement in my final essay submissions. While writing WA 2 I learned many things that would help me not only improve my paper but also help me throughout my college career. I was not sure how to cite APA properly, through work with professors, classmates and the writing center I learned the proper in text citations. I then went on to use this skill for my Nursing 115 class when I had to write at 100 point APA format essay. I realized how lucky I was to take FYSW and have such great support learning how to properly cite authors because it is something I will use my whole college career.

The First Year Writing Seminar here at Moravian College taught me a lot more than just writing. The Friday information sessions in Prosser Auditorium taught me more about the college and the resources available to me as an incoming freshman. They answered many questions I did not know I had or was afraid to ask.

Dr. Terrizzi provided volunteer opportunities during FYWS. During the first semester we participated in Heritage Day, went to the New Boys and Girls Club and also learned about Teen Pregnancy. Therefore, I learned more than just about writing, I learned the importance of community and working together to make a difference.

After completing my first semester here at Moravian College I realized how much FYSW impacted my first semester. I of course learned about the college writing process and how to improve my writing for any assignments I might come across in college. I then went on to learn about how much support this college provides for each of their students. By providing constant support Moravian and their professors encourage the students to support and volunteer for the community around the college. Therefore, I learned the importance in helping others to make a difference because I am so fortunate to those who have helped me get where I am today.
