Social Media as a Job By: Cindy Yoon

Intro

A normal job consists of $80,778 a year, but a job on social media earns about $10,000 per 100,000 views, followers, etc! Even though it might look easy and fun, but in reality life is really hard for these people. Gaining popularity can also be painfully slow, it takes years for a account to gain attention. But how do they do it? What is their secret?

Youtube

On the internet youtubers are very popular But what is the secret to their success? Well first of all On the average 100,000 views a youtuber gets about 10,000 dollars, a youtuber like the diamond minecart has about 100,000 views per video. But a youtuber like Pewdiepie has about $3,000,000 views per video that means that he gets about 30,000! Most youtubers get famous on playing games, for example Minecraft, Roblox, Five nights at Freddy's, video game walkthroughs and more.

Others get famous by vlogging trips, daily routines, D.I.Y. There are also unboxing videos, How-to, product videos so there is a large variety of things to do on youtube. Although youtube life might seem great, there are some hardships that follow, for example your first youtube videos will not be great and lots of youtube giants has started of small and weak so becoming successful is very hard for a youtuber.

If you wants some inspiration you should try out watching some of these youtube giants Like Pewdiepie, Superwoman, Bethanymota, Dan and Phil, and more.

The daily routine of a youtuber (Bethany Mota) consists of waking up at 9:00 checking social media, then going to get ready for the day. After she is done she responds to her fan mails, doing hair and makeup afterwards. Then she eats breakfast, then she gets ready and goes outside to hang out with her friends. The youtube life v.s the normal life of engineers is very hard, a normal job consists of waking up at 6:00 in the morning. They get ready for their jobs then head off, lots of jobs can be very stressful. The jobs for engineers come home at 6:00-9:00. So this means that having a job on youtube can be both bitter and sweet, on average you get $10,000 per 100,000 views!

It’s pretty nice until you face the fact that not all youtubers can become rich and famous like DanTDM, Pewdiepie, Superwoman and more, but how did they get their jobs? Well they first started off with a popular subject like gaming, vlogging, D.I.Y, and many more, and that's what made them popular.

Blogger

Bloggers are very important to social media, they point out stuff talk about the world and more. According to life hacker.com it said about 9% of the population (of bloggers) earn about $1,000-10,000 per month and 4% earn about $10,000 a month. Unfortunately most of the unpopular bloggers earn about $3.50 per day so per month they earn about $105 a month. Some types of popular bloggers talk about Food, travels, politics, life, technology, and etc. Some of the more famous bloggers are Pete Cashmore who earns about $560,000 – $600,000 per month, he earns this much by talking about technology, business, social media, entertainment and lifestyle. Another example of a famous blogger is Gina Trapani who earns about $110,000 per month, what she does is that she is the founder of the popular blog lifehack, encouraging people to share there life hacks. Finally there is Michael Arrington who earns about $500,000 – $800,000 per month. The idea of being a blogger is that you really have to be motivated and concentrate on your blog, it might be really hard at first, but when you reach to a certain point of 100,000,000 subscribers life gets pretty sweet. Instagram

There are many things you can do on instagram, you could do makeup, cooking, art, and so many more. When you have 1,000 followers you can get about $14,400 a year, a instagrammer with $15,600 a year, and a instagrammer with 100,000 followers has $156,000. Some might say that having an actual job is better than having a job on instagram, and others might say the opposite. The difference between a actual job and a job on instagram is people with jobs make a change, instagramers only give out entertainment, people with jobs aren’t popular, instagrammers are popular and well known, so what do you think? Is being an instagrammer better? Being a instagrammer might be great, but there are some things that are bad on instagram, like some of the pictures might be inappropriate for children, it is very dangerous to show your identity, where you live, your password, and many other things. So who has the most popular instagram account right now? Well right now the most popular instagrammer is Selena Gomez, with up to 104 million followers! Next to her is Taylor Swift with about 94.3 million followers. Then it is Beyonce Knowles with 85.9 million followers, then it is Ariana Grande with 85.7 million followers. Tags on instagram are really important because it brings out the instagrammer personality and humor, according to http://www.postplanner.com some more famous tags are #Love, #Instagood, #me, #TBT (Throwback Thursday) and many more. The thing is that instagramers play a big role in social media jobs, in 2005 the users for instagram bumped up to 400 million! Life as a job on instagram is nice relaxing, until you realize that you have to keep up with your followers, make your life interesting, posts things that everyone likes, and sometimes may be straight up frauds.

Vine

Vines for those who don’t know are 6 second long skits, According to www.complex.com/pop-culture/2014/12/vine-stars-money/ popular viners get about between $20,000 to $50,000.

In my opinion I think it is okay for viners to shoot their videos in public places because viners, or any other comedians should be allowed to shoot their videos because it is for comedy and entertainment for other people.

Right now on vine King Bach is the most popular viner right now, currently with 13.6 million followers, second goes to Nash Grier with 12.1 million followers! Finally third goes to Brittany Furlan with 9.5 million.

One challenge might be the more popular viners might get too much attention and you don’t stand out, also being a viner that means that you have to do really stupid things, like some other viners might do pranks for example they might dress up as a clown and eventually get caught by a police or might get beaten up. Like I said before viners do stupid things to get attentions, but is it really worth it? It might be their jobs to do this but in my opinion I don’t think it is worth it and they might someday get in trouble, in some vines they do pranks that get them hurt or get them arrested, swear and more things.

I don’t think it is the viners fault but more on the viewers, these days viewers are more interested in swearing, pranks and more then good things. I think it depends on the viners, for example there is a viner named Lizzza that never swears and is very enjoyable to watch, with viewable content and lots of funny videos, another viner like Marlon Webb is not recommended for kids under 16, but for some people it may be enjoyable

Concusion

So in overall a job on the internet is difficult, with bitter-sweet moments. You fight for the audience's attention doing stupid things, but is it worth it? Some people say yes, others say no, but why are they doing this? Like I said before, it is the viewer's point of view they do what you want to see. Social media is a wonderful and dangerous place.
