GRANT ELEMENTARY

Students have fun reading in Grant's Read by 3 before school reading enrichment program with reading teacher Mrs. Allison.

----------------------------------------

Grant students have been having all sorts of fun the past two weeks in Leadership Lab including needlework, physical fitness relays, mixtures and solutions, creating works of art, yoga poses, and studying reptiles and amphibians!

Grant's preschool students synergize as they get ready to rehearse for their holiday concert!

Miss Dindinger’s Begindergarten class at Grant earned enough brownie points to have a brownie party! They are also working on writing their first AND last names.

----------------------------------------

Thank you to Grant Elementary's 3rd-Grade Girl Scout Troop for organizing a toy and supply drive for the U of I Children's Hospital in memory of fellow Grant Dolphin, Hayden Daufeldt. Hayden's mother, Kendra, came on Thursday to accept the donations!

Members of Grant's Student Leadership Team worked hard during Grant's fundraiser at Pizza Ranch, "Christmas at the Ranch!"

JEFFERSON ELEMENTARY

Students in Mr. Loos's third grade science classes are learning about how water impacts their daily lives. This week they collected Earth materials to see what happened when droplets of water were placed on them. Students were surprised to see some materials absorbing the water droplets while the water beaded up on other materials.

----------------------------------------

Students in Mrs. Klein's fifth grade math class had the opportunity to collaborate to solve a challenging math scenario. They worked together to discover patterns using volumes of different sized cubes.

----------------------------------------

Fifth graders lit up the dark during the finale of the Jefferson Holiday Concert this Tuesday afternoon. Students and parents took a ride on the Polar Express, complete with sleigh bells, carols and hot cocoa. Special thanks go out to our fantastic students, parents and our incredible Music Teacher Miss Lindsey. What a show!

MADISON ELEMENTARY

Madison Elementary collected 667 items for the Freezing for Food drive! Thanks to all who donated to help those in need in our community have food this holiday season!

----------------------------------------

Madison delivered boxes of books (694 books!) collected during its book drive for Franklin Elementary's (in Moline, Illinois) library after their fire. Pictured below is Madison's Student Leadership Team and Moline's Franklin Elementary's student council.

Second graders in Ms. Holder's art classes at Madison painted their clay creations this week!

----------------------------------------

Mrs. Poppe's fourth graders at Madison are learning about chemical and physical weathering in science class this week.

MULBERRY ELEMENTARY

Kindergarteners in Mrs. Evans' class drew gingerbread people and they ran away! They left the students a message and the students drew them a house. Mrs. Evans' students went with Mrs. Green’s class to look for them. The gingerbread people were in their classroom when they got back!

CENTRAL MIDDLE SCHOOL

Congratulations to Central Middle School's Superhero Students in 6th grade! These students have been recognized for working hard, being responsible, and showing strong leadership skills. Keep up the great work!

----------------------------------------

CMS students in Ms. Mullikin's eLEMONators went over to Jefferson 5th grade to teach a STEM lesson - building catapults. It was tons of fun!

WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL

Eighth grade students at West Middle School visited Capri College last week.

----------------------------------------

One of Mr. Yerington’s 6th grade science students taught the class Wednesday as a good behavior reward (students earn SPEAR awards and can redeem them for various rewards). Great job!

MUSCATINE HIGH SCHOOL

MHS Choir students shopped for four Muscatine senior citizens in need this holiday season. Working with Senior Resources, the four curricular choirs--Freshman, Concert, Treble, and A Cappella--all sponsored one senior in the community. They formed committees who shopped for, wrapped, and presented a basket of gifts to each senior on Thursday, December 7th. Items included things like bath and dish towels, toilet paper, gloves, hats, cleaning supplies, and laundry detergent to help these community members ease their financial burden.

A slideshow of pictures and videos of this Senior Sponsor Project, as we like to call it, will be featured at the MHS Holiday Choir Concert on Monday, December 11th at 7:30PM in the MHS Auditorium. We hope to see you there!

----------------------------------------

Seven members of the MHS orchestra program performed with the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, Dec. 2nd. The students were Kali Lange, Bria Holthe, Jack Eichelberger, Anahi Gonzalez, Lauren Kundel, Alex Sichterman and Ryan Simester.

The MHS Orchestra put on an amazing show this week at their Holiday Concert!

----------------------------------------

Do you have an extra coat or two? Donate it! MHS Key Club is holding a coat drive and collecting clean, gently worn coats of all types and sizes. Donations will be accepted in the MHS Library now through Thursday, December 14th. Donated coats will be distributed to the Muskie Lockers and our local community.

----------------------------------------

AWESOME turnout yesterday for students interested in Muscatine High School's new Welding Career Academy!! The Welding Academy is one of four career academy options MHS students will have next year.

----------------------------------------

Mrs. Rauenbuehler's 5th and 6th period English 9 classes practiced their TED Talks all at the same time!
