From the President's Desk

Dear Friends,

We live in a world in which nearly every day some new discovery, some new technology, some new therapy comes along promising to once again make our lives better by streaming our data faster, by making us healthier, by speeding along our lives so that we will have time to enjoy life more.

All too often, we find that while these might indeed produce what they claim, something seems to be missing, and we emerge from the experience a bit nonplussed for all the experience as if the item in question did not fit with the whole program.

What we seem to want, even more than new and exciting, is calm, peace, love, patience, and competency. There exists no need to rush a beautiful moment; a delightful time gets better with the enjoyment of it, and the best times move at their own speed, fast or slow. So should a good school and a well-planned class. If your student comes home from school and reports the class was orderly, the teacher well-prepared and the day moved apace with the same ordered rhythm of before, good. Learning, like so many other things in life, ought not be rushed, must ebb and flow, and its outcome indeed will be judged upon the reaching of the port for which it is heading.

St. Dom’s exists in this world of ours to bring age old wisdom and apply it to the modern world, training our students so that they will indeed be ready to set the world on fire and make this world a better place for all of us.

St. Dom’s - start here go anywhere.

Pax et Bonum,

Timothy Gallic

14th Annual Holiday Festival

Thanks to the effort of many individuals and volunteer groups, we made a profit of $12,000 at this year's festival. Special thanks to the All Saints Boosters Club, the Mission to Mississippi volunteers, and many students, parents, faculty, and staff for their contributions of time, talent, and treasure!

8th Grade Angels Help Peers in Need

8th graders Ridge Dionne and Tim Ouellette

Mrs. Ouellette's 8th-grade Angels collected and donated several boxes of much needed clothes and toiletries to the Store Next Door project. As a result of the Angels' efforts, some of the basic needs of local impoverished students will be met. This heartwarming work aligns with the St. Dom's mission of helping those less fortunate than ourselves. Great job, Saints!

District 2 Chorus

Kyla Wallace '22, Kathleen Dean '22, Laura Wong '23, Music Teacher Matt Konrad, Andi Dolci '20

We are very pleased to announce that four St. Dom's students made the Maine Music Educators Association District 2 Chorus this year! Congratulations to Laura Wong (9), Kathleen Dean (10), Kyla Wallace (10), and Andrea Dolci (12). These talented Saints were awarded this honor after attending the Vocal and Instrumental Festival Auditions at Windham Middle School on October 24.

We are rooting for our Saints vocalists during their All State auditions this weekend. Good luck Saints!

The District 2 Vocal Festival will take place between January 31st and February 1st at Windham High School.

Congratulations Exchange Club Awardees

Principal Roger Lachapelle, Ambrose Ward '20, Molly Myrick '20, Avery Greco '20, Skye Rogers '20

St. Dom’s has selected Ambrose Ward, Molly Myrick, Avery Greco, and Skye Rogers as students of the month for The Exchange Club of Auburn. Each student will receive a $100 gift for his or her education during a luncheon meeting, where the student presented a five-minute talk telling the Exchange Club membership about the student’s journey, passion, and plans. One will be chosen as the Student of the Year and have the potential to be awarded additional scholarship money. Congratulations to these Saints!

Bring a Friend to School Day

On Thursday, November 21, students are welcome to show their friends what St. Dom’s is all about by offering a full school day experience. Guests must be entering grades 6-11 for the 2020 - 2021 school year. Click below for more information and for the printable permission form.

You Can Help St. Dom's Grow!

Join us for an Open House on November 21 from 2:30 to 6:00 pm at the Auburn Campus. Attendees will meet the teachers, administration, and coaches, see classroom demonstrations, view a video created by the St. Dom’s student Film Club, and enjoy a snack provided by Chef Joe.

9th Grade Placement Test

We are also holding a placement test on Saturday, November 23 at 8:30 am at the Auburn Campus for all 8th grade students entering 9th grade for the 2020 - 2021 school year. The cost of the test is $20. This amount will be deducted from the tuition for 2020 - 2021.

The placement test is a standardized, timed test required of every 8th grader applying to attend St. Dom’s. It is not an entrance exam. It contains five sections that measure verbal ability, quantitative ability, reading comprehension, mathematics, and components of written language. The questions are designed to test students at their curriculum level. This assessment tool is used primarily for course placement. For questions about the placement test, contact Marilyn Beauparlant at 207-782-6911 or Marilyn.beauparlant@portlanddiocese.org.

Grandparent's Day

Save the date! Grandparents are invited to a special reception and mass with Bishop Robert Deeley in their honor on Wednesday, November 27 at the Auburn Campus. Pre-K through 12th grade students will gather at the Auburn Campus and dismissed at noon. An invitation will be mailed to grandparents listed as contacts in RenWeb. To add a grandparent(s) to the invite list, email Nicole.adams@portlanddiocese.org.

Key Club Impacts Hundreds of Individuals

Our Saints Key Clubbers under the direction of moderator Pam Kay and student Key Club President, Lucy Frenette, will carry on the club's tradition of providing service these upcoming holidays.

From now until Friday, November 22, the Key Club will be collecting non-perishable food items for SEARCH, a Catholic Charities program for area seniors on a limited income. Key Club members will deliver boxes of food personally the Saturday before Thanksgiving to each recipient with a $10 Hannaford Gift Card for a turkey. This year, Key Club Saints are partnering with Leavitt H.S. to provide baked cookies to include in the boxes.

Non-perishable food donations can be dropped in the collection boxes in each Auburn Campus classroom this week. Contact junior Gigi Ouellette for more information. gisele2021@stdomsmaine.org

By its appearance at the upcoming Grandparents mass, the Key Club’s annual Giving Tree will bring forth the true spirit of the Christmas season. Tags on the tree will represent the basic needs and some “wants” of approximately 30 very needy area children, some of which are homeless. If any school club, individual or family would like to adopt 1 or more children, please contact Pam Kay at pamela.kay@portlanddiocese.org or Giving Tree project manager, Lucy Frenette at lucyfrenette35@icloud.com.
