Library Group Study Rooms UNIVERSITY of central lancashire

In 2015, the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) announced its intention to fund a £200 million Campus Masterplan development to integrate its campus with the rest of the city.

As part of the upgrades, the University had an aim to refresh some of its library group study rooms to encourage students to make use of them more regularly. The rooms were required to have collaborative tables that could facilitate Audio Visual technology to enable users to collaborate, either amongst each other or using the screen as a focal point.

Pure AV, who had previously won the work for UCLan’s recently upgraded Creative Learning Spaces had also managed to secure installation of the Library group study areas. Having worked extensively with Pure AV on various projects, TeamMate WorksZone Collaboration Tables were the preferred option for the technical furniture. UCLan needed bright and attractive furniture to encourage the students to book out these rooms more frequently. As a result, each TeamMate WorksZone Table was chosen with a different coloured finish to ensure each room reflected a different personality.

Each WorksZone Monitor Screen Support had a Philips display paired with an AMX huddle conference camera to enable quick conference meetings. The central connectivity module was fitted with power, USB charging and a HDMI back to back module to enable users to bring external devices in order to mirror content onto the main display. A local PC was also installed for those without laptops or other devices.

James Crooks, Director of Learning and Information Services commented,

‘For group working we find that students really want a nice bright open space with enough space for them to interact with each other in different ways. The underpinning elements of this include access to technology that enables them to collaborate, whether on specific pieces of work, a presentation, or to research different materials and resources.
To support this, we need audio visual technology that is really integrated within the environment itself and not an afterthought. Our students love our group working spaces, the only negative is that there isn’t enough of them as they are in such high demand all the time. The feedback we receive about our students’ experience in these spaces is overwhelmingly positive.’
