Economy, Jobs and Fair Work Committee 13-20 March 2017

This week in Committee, we're on to our second session on the gender pay gap. If you missed the first, the Official Report and video are now available so you can catch up before tomorrow's meeting. We start at 9.30am, and we'll be hearing from -

  • Talat Yaqoob, Director, Equate Scotland;
  • Tanya Castell, Non Executive Director and CEO, Changing the Chemistry;
  • Shona Struthers, Chief Executive, Colleges Scotland;
  • Katie Hutton, Director, National Training Programmes, Skills Development Scotland;
  • Professor Gillian Hogg, Deputy Principal (External Relations), Heriot-Watt University, Universities Scotland;

and then from -

  • Tricia Nelson, Partner, EY;
  • Debbie Crosbie, Chief Operating Officer and an Executive Director, Clydesdale Bank;
  • Gillian MacLellan, Partner, CMS Cameron McKenna LLP;
  • Debbie Miller, Inclusion Manager, Royal Bank of Scotland

Last week was also super exciting for us as we were trending on twitter! OK, it maybe wasn't entirely down to us, and might have had something to do with Wednesday being International Women's Day, but for a brief period #GenderPayGap was in the charts. Many thanks to everyone who sent us a selfie - we had a great response and even got answers in Czech, Portugese, Gaelic, and one from a very cute dog called Taco.

Paws for thought

We've pulled together some of the responses; have a look here if you're interested. Or if you prefer the super short version, this word cloud gives you an idea of the issues that came up:

But it's not been all gender pay gap. On Friday, along with three other Parliamentary committees, we published our report on the draft Climate Change Plan. And this Thursday afternoon, there will be a debate in Parliament on all the Committee reports - watch on the website, or if you're in Edinburgh you can come follow the action in person.

As always, get in touch if you want to talk about any aspect of the Committee's work - or just to share photos of your dog:
