C6 + H12 + O6 =====> 6CO2 + 6H2O + 38 ATP is the Chemical Equation. Cellular Respiration is a aerobic, catabolic reaction.

Glycolosis

Occurs in the cytoplasm, and occurs in all living organisms. IT takes C6 + H12 + O6 and creates 2C3 + H4 + O3. It also takes Glucose and creates Pyruvic Acid from it. A net of 2 ATP are made.

Krebs Cycle

Occurs in the matrix of the mitochondria, is aerobic and is the first step of Cellular Respiration. Pyruvic Acid is broken down into carbon dioxide. All organisms perform Cellular Respiration, therefore they also perform the Krebs Cycle. FADH2 are made along with NADPH.

Electron Transport Chain

Occurs in the cristae of the mitochondria, is the second step to Cellular Respiration, and is also known as oxidative phosphorylation. Oxygen is a reactant and water is a product. NADH and FADH2 are used from the Krebs Cycle. 38 ATP are made.

Why Cellular Respiration is important

It provides the energy for living organisms to perform all of the other necessary functions to maintain life. However, most single-celled organisms, such as bacteria, do not require much energy and are able to survive on glycolysis and fermentation.
