Day 1 Saturday 20.5.17
Arrive and transfer at own initiative by taxi to Ennis, and book in to the Temple Gate Hotel. There will be traditional music sessions somewhere in town, usually late.
Day 2 Sunday 21.5.17
I will appear, and we leave Ennis after you've had a sleep in to get over jet lag and last night's music! I should be with you around 12 noon. We take a leisurely drive to the world famous Cliffs of Moher, and proceed by the scenic Burren coast road to Galway city for overnight. We will stay in a traditional Irish bed and breakfast bar for three nights. Entry to Cliffs Visitor Centre included.
We will visit at least three bars with music in the evening. Firstly, the informal session for local people in Tigh Fox’s bar, with very traditional food available locally. Afterwards, we head into the city and go to Tigh* Coilí in the city centre where local musicians meet later on. You might be asked to join in at Tigh Fox! Overnight Galway. (* “Tigh” (pronounced “Tie”) or “Teach”, pronounced “Chak” is Irish for “House” or “The House of”)
Day 3 Monday 22.5.17
Aran Islands Tour. Ferry and tour costs on island included. Music in Galway again tonight!
Dun Aonghus Fort, on Inishmore
Day 4 Tuesday 23.5.17
Day at leisure in Galway city - but - if you would like a local scenic tour that can be included at no cost. If weather prohibited the island trip the day before, we'll give it another try today. If neither day is suitable, we will take a tour of coastal scenic villages and beaches on the Connemara coast. Our last night in Galway, so you will be able to take the pick of what bars you liked!
Day 5 Wednesday 24.5.17
We leave Galway for Westport where we stay overnight. En route we travel through the remote, wild, and almost uninhabited Connemara region, admiring the ancient but pristine lake and mountain scenery. Tonight we stay in the town centre, from where we are in easy reach of the main music bar, Matt Molloys. DINNER INCLUDED on this night.
Day 6 Thursday 25.5.17
A cycle along the jewel in the drown of Ireland's cycleways, the Great Western Greenway. We can do an 8 mile stretch, a 19 mile stretch or the whole route of 27 miles. I will collect you at the other end and bring you back to Westport via a few scenic sights on the way, including Achill Island. If you prefer we can a spend a little more time exploring the island and have our evening meal there before returning to Westport (45 minute drive). Alternately, we can return earlier once you have finished cycling. Overnight again in Westport.
The Great Western Greenway
Day 7 Friday 26.5.17
We take a leisurely drive to Limerick for overnight. We can sleep in and leave after lunch - it's no more than two hours' drive - or leave earlier and have the afternoon to explore Limerick including King John's Castle - or we can take the day to stop off at various small rural villages en route. We don't need an agenda or a timetable on this day, and we don't need to plan which of the above we want to do until that day. Stop offs at various little country pubs are a nice option.
Day 8 Saturday 27.5.17
