Hearts: We Did Some Visiting

Peter G stopped by to check out The Shed as a new connection point. Welcome Peter!

We Stopped To Celebrate!

About 60 Shed guys, guests, CMHA team, and media were on hand for an evening of celebration to mark the official beginning of a new relationship between Men's Shed Vernon at the Canadian Mental Health Association.

Some of the items we craft were on display.

A few short speeches on our journey, our appreciation, and our vision marked the occasion. Mostly, we visited to make new friends, and to get to know one another better.

It was a great evening to reflect on how we have grown, and bonded over the last two years, and for the depth that we will be able to build into Men's Shed Vernon with our new CMHA associates.

A BIG THANK YOU to Lenai and Eleanor at CMHA for all your help in making the event a success.

We received some appreciated and well read media attention. There were about 3,000 "reads" on Castanet alone.

We need to do this more often!

facebook group : Twelve MSV guys are now signed up to interact and support one another. Click the link below, and then "Join". Roy will do the rest. THANKS, Roy!

Hands: We Got Some Stuff Done!

Lyle's at it again! Someone mentioned how they would like to have a storage rack for thread spools. Before you know it, ideas were developing, equipment was whirring, and we had three different prototypes ready to go! Good job, guys!

Vernon Farmer's Market Fall Windup

We displayed our skills at the Farmers Market Fall Fair on Nov. 11th. There was a lot of interest from local guys. We even gave away a door prize. Well done, Gerry!
This isn't our shop, but a reminder that we need to keep our small space tidy and organized. Scott F and some of the Shed guys are reorganizing our shop for better work spaces and dust control. Thanks, guys!

Catalina 27 Restoration

Stanchions are in place, and new lifelines are installed. The work continues...

Mel's Scroll Saw Quest - Two

Last newsletter, we were following Mel's quest to better understand how to master our scroll saw. Well...Mel has identified all the different blades, their purposes, and types of wood they cut best. He even had samples of the work done by the various options.

I think that a mini class orienting guys to the scroll saw could be the next step. Well done, Mel!

Our friends at Allan Brooks Nature Centre have some more ideas for some sturdy outdoor benches and shade shelter gazebos for their nature trails. What do you think, Guys?
I think we need a bigger facility to handle the new guys and project ideas arriving. Help us find a larger building to accommodate the new guys and new project ideas arriving.

Minds - Staying Involved

Important MSV Dates and activities:

Summit on Aging Conference

The United Way and their sponsors hosted the second biennial "Summit on Aging" conference in Vancouver last week. Hundreds of professionals engaged in providing a broad range health and community programs services to seniors were in attendance.

The Men's Shed movement was well represented with a table display hosted by Men's Shed representatives from Vernon, Kelowna, and Coquitlam.

We also hosted a table at the "Ask an Expert" breakfast. We were so swamped with interest and "How do I start a Shed?" questions, that we barely had time to eat!

Men's mental health was identified as the volcano bubbling just below the opiod crisis in importance in B.C.

Our own Dave Friesen did an awesome job of interacting with United Way executives, and was introduced to the Minister of Health. Men's Shed is on their radar. Well done, David.

Contact David or Ray V if you would like to learn more.

Movember is here! Tell a friend to get their prostate checked. They may thank you for saving their life! Grow a "stache" to raise funds. We gotta keep working at living as long as the ladies. Get involved, Men's Shed guys!

CMHA Calendar

Check out all the activities, and opportunities to volunteer at CMHA this month.

Mental Health First Aid Course. Gerry G and Mel H are signed up for this valuable two day CMHA course. We look forward to the depth they will bring to our MSV well being tool box. Well done guys!

Dec. 7 & 8: MSV will have a sales table and exhibit at Shoparama.
Drop me a note if you would like to add a friend, (or delete) a name to our newsletter mailing list. We won't share it. rverlage@gmail.com
One thing that we WILL share is some quality time, some stories, and some projects when we meet. Don't forget to tell other guys about what's happening at "The Shed"..

We're Open Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9AM - 1PM @ Elephant Storage - 6136 Okanagan Ave. Come and check us out!
