Advocates Against Human Trafficking The university of Tennessee Knoxville

Hello! First off, we are so excited you are on our page! We are a group of students at The University of Tennessee Knoxville who have a passion to stand out and make a difference in our community. By definition human trafficking is, the illegal practice of procuring or trade in humans beings for the purpose of prostitution, forced labor, and/or other forms of exploitation. We are working with Grow Free Tennessee to bring more awareness and make a difference for Human Trafficking in our beautiful state, Tennessee.

Did You Know?

  • There are more slaves today than any other time in history.
  • Human trafficking affects individuals in every country of all walks of life. Approximately 14,500-17,500 people are trafficked in the U.S. annually. To put it into perspective – in 2015, 47 cases of human trafficking were reported in Tennessee alone.
  • Human trafficking and smuggling are not interchangeable. Human trafficking is about exploitation and uses force, fraud, and/or coercion. Smuggling is simply the act of illegal transportation.

Who We Are

We are a small team of students who have a driven passion to make a difference and bring awareness to human trafficking in our community! Human trafficking is an issue that is recognized by most college students, however, the majority of students on campus do not realize the local impact it truly has on our society. WE are firm believers of one's own free will and opportunity to create a better life for those around us. We decided to advocate for Grow Free Tennessee because of their impact in Knoxville with this issue.
