Hollow City Ransom Riggs

The overall location of the first section is on a random beach shore somewhere in England. I imagine that it's the evening and there's still some light. I picture that the sky is gray and there is a lot of fog. I think that the beach has a small shore and lots of sand but a dark and gloomy forest past that. I imagine that it's very lonely and that it's deserted.

The year the novel takes place in is 1940. It is during World War II and they are targets. It makes me feel like it wasn't safe back then because of all this war. I imagine that there's soldiers walking around everywhere, boats and submarines in the sea, airplanes and hot air balloons in the sky, and many military cars around.

  • They are on a gloomy beach and they don't see everyone around. They are scared to be spotted and killed by the enemy. I picture it to be temperate and in the middle of summer and fall. I picture that on the beach it's cold because there's water right there and the wind blows and it had just stormed.

The population in my book is empty. There is nobody at the beach or on the sea except the group. The closet thing to other people were fishermen watching them as they left their home island. There were also planes and balloons in the sky.

There are small black balloons that are patrolling. They are in the air and are trying to find the kids. There were submarines which show that it was kind of newer and still back then. They were used to find the kids as well.

The mood of my book is scary and mysterious. The atmosphere is war and no peace. There are a lot of soldiers and patrol planes. The kids have some mysterious powers and they are always in danger.

The setting helps because they are stranded on a random beach. And when there are on the ocean there is no one there and they are having trouble through the storm. It also shows that it's dangerous. There are patrollers that know them and want to capture Miss Peregrine and kill the kids.
