GCCS to Host Camp Kindergarten

Greater Clark County Schools will host Camp Kindergarten district-wide on Thursday, April 13th. This event is held to familiarize parents and incoming kindergarten students with their school and also provide a brief glimpse into the activities associated with the wonderful world of kindergarten. The main goal is to provide parents with information about the skills and knowledge that are most important for children as they first enter school. School staff members will provide you with ideas about what you can do during the summer months to help your child develop or improve on these skills to ensure your child has a successful start to their school career. ***Charlestown elementary schools will be reconfigured beginning with the 2017-18 school year. Students in grades preK-2 will attend Pleasant Ridge Elementary (Primary) and students in grades 3-5 will attend Jonathan Jennings Elementary (Intermediate). Camp Kindergarten students need to register with Pleasant Ridge Elementary.

GCCS Implements SafeMail

SchoolMessenger is our trusted platform for parent and community communication and engagement. In an effort to increase our level of monitoring of student emails and Google programs, Greater Clark County Schools will be utilizing a new feature from SchoolMessenger. SchoolMessenger’s SafeMail’s Human Monitoring System (HMS) flags and reports student emergencies per school, including issues like suicide, sexuality, violence, interpersonal conflict, and more. SchoolMessenger’s highly-trained team reviews flagged content sent by students and alerts our school staff when troubling issues arise. Parents can then be notified by school staff when concerns are reported. This tool will increase our abilities to proactively deal with potential threats to student safety. The new monitoring program began this week. If you have questions, please contact your child's school.

GCCS Now Accepting Preschool Applications

Greater Clark County Schools offers preschool in each elementary building. Morning sessions are from 9:00 to 11:30 and afternoon classes are from 1:00 to 3:30. The preschool program serves children with special needs and children from low income who are eligible for the Early Education Matching Funds Grant (EEMG). There are also a limited number of slots available for other students with priority give to children who narrowly missed the cut-off age for Kindergarten.

In order to be eligible for Greater Clark preschool, your child must be 4 years of age by August 1, 2017. Children who are 5 by that date are eligible for Kindergarten. Children must attend the preschool at their home school, transfers are not granted. The fee for preschool is $150 for the year and parents must provide transportation. If your family qualifies for the EEMG grant, the fee is waived and transportation is provided. Click here to visit the GCCS website for more information!
