Leo IX
1. Pope Leo IX was born Bruno. He was born on June 21, 1002.
2. He led a papal army to banish the Normans in 1053, and was captured by them and held captive for 9 months.
3. He died shortly after he returned to Rome, on April 19, 1054.
St Dominic
1. Born in old Castle, Spain, he was trained for the priesthood by a priest-uncle.
2. His preachers gradually became a community, and in 1215 he founded a religious house at Toulouse.
3. He continued this work for 10 years, being successful with the ordinary people.
St. Francis
1. Born in Italy circa 1181.
2. St. Francis of Assisi was renowned for drinking and partying in his youth.
3. After a year of negotiations, Francis's ransom was accepted, and he was released from prison in 1203.
