Paint to Inspire

MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS PAINT POSITIVITY INTO THE LIVES OF THEIR STUDENTS

Middle School Teachers paint inspirational quotes in the girl's bathroom at Harmony Science Academy Pflugerville hoping to inspire and motivate students throughout the year. After seeing a similar painting on her Facebook feed from a Texas school, Mrs. Bethany Cathey fell in love with the idea and wanted to make it happen at her campus. Bethany put out a social media post to see who would be interested in helping her with the paint project, and now she had a team of inspirational painters! She is hoping to continue the project in all of the bathrooms and get students involved in the painting.

“Middle school can be hard time so I thought, what a great way to bring some positivity to their day.”
HSAPf teachers; Hillary Kozuch, Lindsay Decker, Christine Van Duyne, and Tanya Reyes along with Bethany Cathey assisted in painting the girl's bathroom stalls into inspirational artwork

HPS AUSTIN TEACHER MURALISTS PAINT SCHOOL SPIRIT INTO THEIR SCHOOL

HARMONY SCIENCE ACADEMY AUSTIN DUMBLEDORE QUOTE 2018 by Lynn Hamilton

Among the bulletin boards laced with paper mache decorations at Harmony Science Academy Austin dwells two different art murals painted by elementary art teacher, Mrs. Lynn Hamilton. Keeping in tune with the school hashtag #RundiesWorkTogether, the first mural features a key phrase uttered by Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster in Harry Potter book franchise, when the Hogwarts was faced with challenging times. It is a call to remember that only by working together can problems be solved.

The next mural, a multi-colored panther head, was painted as an homage to Mexican street graffiti and to the cultural ties of the local student community. When asked about future projects, Ms. Hamilton said she plans to paint a panther cub above the student library and also plans to paint inspirational quotes on the doors of the student bathroom.

HARMONY SCHOOL OF INNOVATION 2018 (work in progress) by Eddie Martinez

Walking down the halls of Harmony School of Innovation, the walls and doors are lined witty and encouraging messages of academic success for the upcoming school year. However, down one particular hallway rests a colorful mural with word STEAM painted across it. Done during the weekends by K-5th grade art instructor, Mr. Eduardo Martinez, each letter of this work-in-progress is decorated to represent the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) initiative behind Harmony School of Innovation. When asked why about the significance before the “A”, Mr. Martinez said he wanted to emphasis the importance of art in an elementary school: “We are an elementary school and arts are important. It’s important for parents to see that.” Mr. Martinez plans to continue the art wave at HSI by having students who are part of the Mural Club paint inspirational quotes in the restrooms of the school.

HARMONY SCHOOL OF ENDEAVOR 2018 by Kelsey Rowley & HSEnd Students

Art Teacher Kelsey Rowley, along with her mural club students began an art project that showcased the uniqueness of their campus, Harmony School of Endeavor. Each letter represented a class; Science, Sports and Physical Education, Languages, Mathematics, Engineering, English/Language Arts, Social Studies, and of course Art. Mrs. Rowley’s mural club plans to continue working on more art projects at school this school year.

HARMONY SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE AUSTIN 2016 by Polina Novozhenets

In 2016, artist Polina Novozhenets and previous Harmony Austin art teacher designed a mural specifically for Harmony School of Excellence in her signature technicolor style. Multi-colored ribbon spells “HSE Austin” across the wall the entire length of the cafeteria room.

After her colorful mural at HSE, she went on to create again in her signature ribbon style at Harmony Science Academy Pflugerville.

New School Year & New Beginnings

HARMONY SCHOOL OF ENDEAVOR BRINGS NEW S.T.E.A.M. PROGRAMMING ONTO CAMPUS

We are excited to announce that HSPSC is now Harmony School of Endeavor - Austin. With this name change, the shift in focus will change to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) education. This new name and new focus comes with a new program. The now Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade campus has made a significant investment in Engineering and Computer Science courses.

The Middle School and High School Engineering classes as well as our Elementary Launch program is through Project Lead the Way (PLTW). PLTW students develop in-demand, transportable skills – such as problem-solving, critical and creative thinking, collaboration, and communication – that they will use both in school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take. As PLTW students progress through grades K-12, they are empowered to explore career paths, engage in problem-solving and process thinking, develop technical knowledge and skills and build communication skills.

Our Computer Science program is through TEALS. TEALS mission is that every student should have the opportunity to study rigorous computer science in high school. TEALS helps high schools build and grow sustainable computer science programs through partnerships between classroom teachers and tech industry volunteers. This program is also backed by Microsoft Philanthropies

RIDING TO SCHOOL IN STYLE: HPS AUSTIN INTRODUCES NEW BUS ROUTES

For the 2018-2019 school year, HPS Austin is happy to announce the introduction of new bus routes. Although there has been bus transportation between certain campuses for a few years, HPS Austin is now offering school bus stops at Round Rock, 1431, and Tech Ridge center. HPS Austin marks the first time that any Harmony Public School district has offered bus transportation for its students. We hope this expansion will make Harmony Public Schools more accessible to all students in our growing community. HPS students can also expect to ride in custom-styled Harmony buses this fall. These new buses will have an array of amenities including, air conditioning, 3-point seat belts, GPS, and camera systems.

Home Visits Work!

HPS AUSTIN CONTINUES HOME VISIT TRADITION

Harmony’s Home Visit Program is one way our staff supports students and families through the educational process. Harmony teachers visit more than 7,000 homes each year to answer any questions families might have, often helping parents work through confusion about the college application process or provide student resources. We want to ensure our students know that they have the support of both their school and their family in their academic pursuits. Educators from all grades have made the commitment to build communication between themselves and families by visiting the homes of their students. Parents, we encourage you to contact your campus to request your home visit today!
