Documentary lo1

For my Documentary project i have emailed Hollybush House in East Ayrshire. Hollybush House is a combat stress facility for returning veterans that are suffering from PTSD and other mental health problems. The facility caters for all the veterans needs and have 24 beds available for long term treatment of patients. A six week specialist PTSD intensive treatment program is also available.

My eldest daughter is currently serving in the forces so i am quite emotionally involved in this subject and would like to help in anyway possible as well as complete my project. I'm hoping the fact my daughter is in the forces might help connects with some of the veterans. This is a really personal subject for people and some might not be willing to be involved so i think i might have a lot of red tape to get through before i could get involved and shooting.

My main aim would be to follow one mans road to recovery, shooting some of the sessions but my main focus being on portrait shots in and out of the treatment centre. i have offered my time as well as any recourses i have available to them to help with his recovery. This would hopefully build a longterm relationship with the veteran where i could be a constant source of support for them in the future. hopefully i will hear word back from them soon to let me know if i can get the go ahead to go to the centre and meet some of the veterans.

i feel using photography to bring more awareness about this subject can help and if i do my job right the portraits can help boost the confidence of the veteran. I like the idea of a few studio sessions with the model wearing his full uniform and may help him feel proud of his achievements. All these ideas would need to be discussed in length with patients and the staff at the centre.

Incase i don't get the go ahead from this charity i aim to document football away days, focusing on Rangers F.C. as I've already done some work with the East Ayrshire supporters club. Having spoke to them they would be willing to let me travel with them to a few away games on the bus and document the trials and tribulations of a football fanatic.
