Silver PAC Newsletter Winter 2018

Letter from Argentum Silver PAC Chair

Patricia G. Will - Argentum Silver PAC Chair

2017 was the most successful year of fundraising the Silver PAC has had, raising $413,000 against a $400,000 goal. This could not be timelier considering the current tumultuous political environment. We already know that 2018 will be a busy year at both the federal and state levels, with many pressing issues up for debate including emergency preparedness, elder abuse, health care reform, staffing requirements, and Alzheimer's funding. That is why we are seeking to set another record and raise $450,000 in 2018.

Raising $450,000 this year will allow us to hit our goal of co-hosting 40 D.C. PAC events while providing support to many State Partner PACs. It is imperative that we redouble our fundraising efforts in 2018. The senior living industry is a highly regulated industry that is subject to laws and regulations at both the federal and state level. It is more important than ever to employ a proactive and comprehensive public policy strategy both in Washington, D.C. and in the states. This includes meeting with lawmakers and their staff, inviting them to tour senior living communities, educating them on what senior living is and financially supporting those lawmakers that support our industry.

What makes the Argentum Silver PAC unique is that not only does it support federal lawmakers; it also provides substantial resources to Argentum State Partner organization PACs. As senior living professionals, we are all aware of the impact state laws have on our ability to run our businesses and provide resident-centered care to the seniors we serve. Therefore, it is critical that state level PACs also have the resources necessary to be effective advocates.

The Silver PAC campaign will formally launch at the Argentum Annual Conference in May, however, contributions can be made year-round at argentum.org/invest or you may read more about Silver PAC and Argentum's public policy initiatives at argentum.org/advocacy.

I thank you all for making 2017 such a tremendous success and look forward to working together to make 2018 even stronger for senior living.

In addition to a record number of donors, Silver PAC also had the highest number of Silver Circle ($5,000) donors it has ever had with 34 individuals contributing the maximum amount.
