Lehigh Valley Academy: An IB World School Integrating Mandarin Chinese in a K-12 Curriculum

The rapidly increasing opportunities to use the Chinese language around the world have made Mandarin Chinese (the official language in mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore) a rising subject in many schools throughout the nation.

Lehigh Valley Academy, a K-12 charter school serving over 1,700 students in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania is one of the select few schools in the area that offers Mandarin Chinese within its world language instruction program.

Our mission is to educate all students through best learning practices and innovative teaching strategies to be responsible contributors in the community and successful in a 21st century global environment.

As early as 2010, LVA launched its Chinese language program at the elementary level. Over 470 students currently take K-6 grade level Mandarin Chinese language instruction at LVA.

Interactive lessons, technology, and celebrations of Chinese culture have been instrumental teaching tools for our students.

In 2017, the Mandarin program was introduced at the Junior High level at LVA, and will continue to grow as the students advance.

We are passionate about reaching out to students and guiding them through the diverse world of Chinese culture. Our goal is to teach them about the language, the culture, and what it means successful globally.
