Mandela College Blog IT always seems impossible until it's done

Wenham's Word

It has been a very exciting and enjoyable half term for Mandela College. We have participated in lots of sporting events, both as a College and individually. We have had pupils take part in sporting events and we have had Wider World Day which was very exciting. We were able to welcome the Pearl of Africa choir into school and learn all about life in Africa. They taught us how to dance and their voices were amazing. We are now looking forward to Christmas and the lovely events that lay ahead of us in the coming weeks including the Winter Warmers, Christmas Fair and Carol Concert. I continue to be so proud of all pupils in Mandela and their positive happy outlook on school. Well done and keep going!

The Mandela pupils taking part in Winter Warmers

We are so proud of Maddie, Eleanor, Bethan, Alicia, Mason, Nancy, Rachel and Tallya for taking part in Winter Warmers this year. They are singing and playing instruments such as the trombone and cello. We are sure they will be amazing.

Year 7 Enterprise Christmas Competition

Our Year 7 pupils recently came second in the Enterprise Christmas Competition which is amazing. Holli, Abi and Madi made a Christmas tree out of an old book which showed ingenuity and creativity. Holly, Kadie, Liv and Darcy made a beautiful metal Christmas tree with a background of snow made from cotton wool. This looked beautiful and was again very creative. Well done girls. We are proud of you.

Wider World Day Competition

These are some of the amazing entries from the Wider World Day Competition to create clothing from recyclable materials. All the pupils in Mandela got really competitive and creative and we managed to come second overall. We particularly liked the backpack made from bin bags modelled by Mark!

Year 11 Girls Netball Competition

We were very proud of the success of the Year 11 girls in the recent college netball competition where they were the overall winners against the other colleges. We have some outstanding netballers who play for the school team. Well done!

Outside School Successes

We are very proud of Fletcher and Holly for their outside school successes in recent weeks. Fletcher is continuing to wow people with his basketball skills as he has been "player of the week" and is one of the youngest players to play for U14 West Lancashire Warriors. Holly really enjoys cheerleading and has come second in a recent competition for Southport and Ainsdale. Well done!

Wonderful Writer

Paige has recently had some of her work published in a Young Writer's Competition called Spine Chillers into the Dark. This is an amazing achievement. Paige would like to be a writer when she is older. Below is the work that has been published.

BlubberFace Unmasked

Have you ever wondered if nightmares came to life?

Your eyes drop; (dead) unexpectedly a cold hand touches your shoulder. What do you do?

Imagine as you close your eyes being strapped to a chair with no freedom ... Footsteps travelling down old, creaky stairs metal against metal, knife against knife, an old man wearing nothing but black, and a mask that looks like someone you knew. What happened to them? You're trapped speechless ... Scream for help! If you could.

Flashlight smashes in front of your eyes glass cuts you free grabbing your nearest object knocking BlubberFace out with one big hit ... Running out of breath towards the exit suddenly as you're about three steps away! Back into the pitch black room with no freedom you go.
