Monkey Business Snow monkeys in Japan

(view in landscape mode on mobile)

A mile walk up a trail in the valley of the Yokoyu-River in Nagano prefecture in Japan will get you to the Jigokudani (Hell's Valley) where a large population of wild Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata), more commonly referred to as snow monkeys live. They gather around this large onsen (hotspring) in the colder months to keep warm. This allows for a unique opportunity for people to get close to the monkeys.
