Hudson Taylor was born on May 21, 1832 in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England. Hudson Taylor was born into a Christian home and his parents were James and Amelia Taylor, and his two siblings were Louisa and Amelia Taylor.

Childhood Hobbies/Experiences

-Hudson Taylor's father was a local Methodist preacher and chemist. Hudson Taylor helped his father in his chemist shop and he gained some experience in banking working at a local bank at the age of 15. Then he left the bank in 1848 to go work in his father's shop.

Educational Experiences

-Hudson Taylor studied medicine, mandarin - which is the standard literary and official form of Chinese based on the Beijing dialect, and trained to be a doctor.

Adult Experiences

-In 1859, Hudson Taylor married Maria and they later had 8 children together but only 4 of them lived older than 10 and the rest died before the age of 10. Maria died from getting weaker and weaker with cholera and then on July 23, 1870, 3 days after her 4 child died. Then later Hudson Taylor married Jennie Faulding part of the China Inland Missions.

What made him serve in missions

-At age 4 or 5 Hudson Taylor said to his parents "When I am a man I mean to be a missionary and go to China." Which his parents had been praying about before he was even born. After he was older at age 17 dissatisfaction with his spiritual state in 1849 he decided that God was calling him to go to China.

-Hudson Taylor found China Inland Missions (CIM) in China and was a part of the mission board of the Chinese Evangelization Society (CES)

-He also preached and baptized Chinese Christians.

-Hudson Taylor found China Inland Missions, developed a witnessing Chinese Church of 125,000, converted at least 35,000 Chinese to Christian, and baptized around 50,000 people.
