Boston College Spring Football Notebook Practice No. 1

The Boston College football team held the first of 15 spring practices Saturday morning inside the Fish Field House. The Eagles wore just helmets as they hit the field for just over two hours.

“It was a good first day and we are really fired up to be out here,” said Boston College head coach Steve Addazio. “It’s just really great to get started and obviously, the beautiful facility we have now gives us the chance to pick and choose when we want to start now. The kids were anxious, we were … it was fun to watch them all get out here and compete.”

Notes: Several players’ families and coaches’ families were in attendance watching the first day of spring practice. Among the guests included William V. Campbell Director of Athletics Martin Jarmond, ESPN’s Joe Tessitore along with Ray Smith and Kevin Bletzer from last season’s team. Smith and Bletzer are among the players working out at Boston College in preparation for the upcoming NFL Draft.

Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Noah Jordan-Williams had one of the most acrobatic catches of the day in traffic for a solid gain … redshirt junior quarterback Anthony Brown showed tremendous anticipation and accuracy with a perfect ball to redshirt senior tight end Jake Burt in stride for a first down … junior Ben Petrula lined up at left tackle for the first time after playing right tackle a season ago. Petrula has started all 24 career games he has played in up front on the offensive line … redshirt freshman Tyler Vrabel was one of the players to earn reps at right tackle in the early going … redshirt freshman cornerback Elijah Jones moved well with an added 15 pounds to his frame from last season. Jones, redshirt sophomore Brandon Sebastian and redshirt sophomore Tate Haynes are three players that stand out when watching the corners. All three have elite size and cover skills to excel at the position.

Three mid-year enrollees took part in their first collegiate practice as quarterback Sam Johnson, defensive lineman Izaiah Henderson and wide receiver Ethon Williams hit the field in maroon and gold for the first time.

BC returns to the practice field on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 9 a.m. for practice number two of the spring.
