Cian Boyle Suas 2016 Team Faridabad

It's an early morning rise for Team Faridabad and at 8am we all head off on our walk to school!

As we entered the Shine school in Lukkarpar this sign reminded us each and everyday how lucky we are to be part of the Suas and Shine family!

After a compulsory nap in the evening it was back to work for Team Faridabad as we lesson planned for the next day and prepared all our teaching resources.

This was my classroom at two very different stages, the first being a moments peace before (the second) all my 37 children in 1st B filled the room with noise, laughter and learning.

Lunch was served in school everyday and after lunch you could test your Bollywood dancing skills against some of the best there is, our teachers!!

Weeks 1-4 in school were summer camp where we taught anything from Gender Equality to Good and Bad Manners. This time was more relaxed than school so we often got to go and do some extra curricular activities so we often found myself in the park playing games.

Summer Camp ended with a huge party which was one of the nicest functions every. Your class get to perform something you have taught them and the day is filled with songs and dance. This is my class with my teaching partner Louise and Anju, one of the teachers

Weeks 5-10 was formal school and during this time you follow a strict timetable and teach alongside your Indian class teacher. At this stage you have really settled in and you can begin to see your hard work paying off!

This was my class teacher, Ratna. The teachers are so nice and they do treat you like family.

More pictures of various times the teachers and volunteers meet up outside of school. You really do form an extremely tight bond with the teachers.

You can also leave a lasting impression on the school and this year our team decided to create a library from an empty room in the school. Needless to say the volunteers, children and teachers all loved it!

Where better to chill out after a hard days work than in the library

Without doubt the best thing about this program is the children that you will teach. They have left an impression on me that will last a lifetime!

It's not all hard work though you do get to travel. We managed to get from the Taj in Agra, to the breathtaking mountains of Rishikesh, meet Chumpa the elephant in Jaipur and finally...

Watch the sunset on our summer in Goa!!

Of course it wouldn't have been a Suas summer without an Indian Wedding

After you say all the very very difficult goodbyes to your teachers, your class and India there will be one consolation, you've now got a bunch of friendships that will last a life time!

Apply now to start your Suas story and be part of the Suas VP 2017!
