Harris Elementary School

National Blue Ribbon School 2020 - Harris Elementary School

Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Schedule.

In the event of inclement weather this year, we will continue to use the virtual learning model so that new instruction can be delivered and the year not be extended to make up for the missed day(s). Unlike with past weather days, we will be utilizing more “live” instruction which will mirror a typical school day. During an inclement weather day, your students day will begin at 8:30 am and all instruction will conclude by 2:00pm. Your teacher will contact you with more specific information when the need arises.

Travel Over Spring Break

When considering your spring break travel, please read below for important information regarding current travel restrictions.

  • On January 26, 2021, the CDC issued an order regarding COVID-19 testing prior to boarding a flight for re-entry to the United States when traveling back from a foreign country (USVI and Puerto Rico are included on this list). Additionally, there are post-travel quarantine guidelines for each country, which apply even if crossing a border via any transportation method.
  • Information can be found on testing requirements and on post-travel quarantine guidelines by clicking on each country found in the CDC Map and Travel Notices link below.
  • Please keep these guidelines in mind when making any upcoming travel plans. Students and staff traveling outside of the US will be expected to adhere to the current requirements regarding quarantine periods and testing.
  • Additionally, you should not travel if you are sick, have suspected or been diagnosed with COVID-19, or have been around someone with suspected or diagnosed COVID-19 in the past 14 days. Doing so may spread the disease to others unnecessarily. The When to Delay Travel document is an excellent resource to help you determine if you should stay home.
  • Thank you for taking the time to review this important information.

Clothes for Clinic

We are in need of some new or lightly used girls clothes for our clinic in all child sizes S - XL. Occasionally, a child needs to change clothes at school, and having items on hand helps us take care of student needs. If you are able to donate, you are welcome to drop these off in our office. We can use all seasons of pants, leggings, shirts, socks and underwear for girls. Thank you in advance.

NWEA

Over the next couple of weeks, Harris students will participate in our second NWEA test this year. When the results are ready, you will be able to see your child's academic progress. Teachers and school staff use the results of this test to plan for individual student instruction. NWEA performance is also used as one pathway to determine high ability placements as described on the GC High Ability program guide found on the Greenfield-Central Website.

Masks

As a reminder, a requirement to onsite learning is supplying a clean mask for school everyday. Thank you for your continued attention to this serious matter.

Third Grade Families

Each year our third grade students participate in IREAD and ILEARN, which are state standardized tests that we are required to give students in grade 3. These tests assess progress and proficiency in core areas of learning. Below you will see a link to a note to parents from the Indiana Department of Education. Look for more information these assessments later this winter and early spring.

COVID19

Thank you for continuing to be diligent in your efforts to keep your family and other Harris students healthy and safe. Please self screen at home and be sure that you don't send a sick child to school this year. In addition, if any member of your household has a pending COVID-19 test, you should not send your child to school until the results of that test return negative. Thanks for helping us slow the spread at this difficult time of year.

Parent Teacher Organization

Thank You to PTO

This week, every student was provided with a new lanyard for second semester from our wonderful PTO. Thanks for all you do to support them!

PTO: We have a wonderful Parent Teacher Organization. They have been so generous in helping buy some new things we need for the unique year we are facing, including: lanyards for face masks, additional traffic cones for our car line, and updated recess equipment for students and teachers. There will be more info from them on how and when they will meet. This year, we will need to focus on low or no contact fundraising options. Your support will be helpful in continuing to have the great resources we enjoy for Harris students. Thank you in advance for your support and generosity.
